Comments or corrections?

I'm painting minis for the Battle of Denmark Straits and Bismarck's
final battle. I'm comfortable with my research in regards to the
schemes of Bismarck, Prinz Eugen, Hood and Prince of Wales, but I'm
looking for reliable information on what schemes King George V, Rodney,
Dorsetshire, Suffolk and Norfolk were carrying at the time.

It appears they were all pretty much carrying the standard Admiralty
medium grey scheme, but reliable corrections, or specific markings
would bery very welcome!

Thanks much!

If I remember correctly Dorsetshire was in Dark Blue,I will consult the book for the others when I get home.

Thanks!

I just recently found a note that said Norfolk was Dark Grey (AP 507A) with some a few Medium Grey superstructure and funnel lines. As near as I can find, all the others in the Home Fleet appear to be in medium grey (AP 507B).

Would that be "Dark Blue Grey" on the Sheffield?

According to Warship Perspectives Vol 1 by Alan Raven, Norfolk's decks were painted in a blue color. There is an photo taken from an aircraft looking down on the ship at anchor. The decks are somewhat darker than what can be seen of the hull and funnels. The same book has port and starboard views of Suffolk in a camouflage consisting of 507A,MS3, and 507C with Dark Grey decks.

I hope that this helps.

That clears things up a bit…any guess what color those blue decks were?

There's a pic of the Norfolk that appears to show her in her May 1941 scheme, it second from the top, at:

world-war.co.uk/index.php3

It doesn't show the deck though…

What you describe for the Suffolk might be the scheme also shown on the same site for that ship, also the second pic.

In that picture, Suffolk's deck also appears blue, perhaps the B5 dark blue-grey?

Your thoughts are welcome, and thanks for the info!

Oops…I didn't read your post carefully enough! Suffolk's decks in that picture could very likely be a dark grey!
