I've never even heard of this set (series?) of books. But having laid out over 100 bucks for an Oxford volume only c. 1/2 thick (on ONE occasion), I reckon you will have to pay the going price if you want the book badly enough

Hi I have a couple of the series but wasn't impressed enough to look for them. Their stuff on darkages byz and enemies stuff is short on known information and long on speculation. And osprey at least is fun for the color plates. R |

Agree, not that great. After seeing a copy, I decided not purchase it myself. If you do decide to purchase, first find out their policy if you decide you don't want to keep the book. |

I quite like the book but the artwork is fair to middling, not fantastic like many of the other Montverts. I enjoyed the text, it is a good read. I think the reason this one is expensive is that some of the later books are still in standard stock, however the earlier ones have been oop and unavailable for some time. The Selucid, Ptolomaic and ?Archamanid? ones are all sought after rarities. The artwork in them is much higher quality. |

Its a very good book and worth having – but maybe not for that price. Does anyone know if there is any chance of a reprint on this series? I have two but would like the rest. |

I like the book very much and won't part with mine. I also have the Sassanid book. I'm not sure what the beef is about Gothic influence on the Romans. Surely the Goths and other Germans influenced Roman clothing fashions. The 4th and 5th Century armies had a large proportion of Germanic auxiliaries and contemporary clothing and illustrations from the 6th century suggest continuity in style. I wish they would reprint them someday. I want the book on T'ang China. |

In my opinion much better than Nicolle Osprey Romano-Byzantine Armies:4th-9th Centuries. Also a narrower focus. |
