In my local bookshop the owner always has a table of remaindered historical / military titles – found the Neil Thomas "Ancient & Medieval Wargaming" on it yesterday for £6.00 GBP (bit better than the original £19.00 GBP !).

Could be worth picking up at that price.

I imagine Mr Thomas wil be cancelling his planned purchase of a yacht.

Seriously, while it's well known that we A) love a bargain and/or B) are cheap bastards, wouldn't it be great if a book of this sort actually met some sales targets in the wider world instead of going to the remainder table?

Well, it was published in 2007, and I think that Sutton books tend to run down the stock on most of their titles after a year or so – so it's not that unusual. But yes, it'd be nice if a book of this type could "escape" into the wider world.

I don't know if it has or hasn't to be honest – have the SOA seen a lot of new players using these rules ?

Again, in honesty, as I already have, hmm, quite a few sets of ancients rules I wasn't really that tempted at full price.

Great book at that price. Interesting read. Interesting, if not simple, rules. I say get it if you want it! BTW, I picked it up from Amazon for about $25…12.5GBP. So 6GBP is pretty darned good.

20th Maine – can you give the name/location of the shop. Like others I'd like to get the book but the initial price put me off. The cheapest I've seen it for on Amazon is about £9.00 GBP inc postage.

Well, they only had 1 copy and that's gone (!) but it was David's Bookshop in Letchworth, Herts, UK. It's a good independant bookshop with a wide range of new and secondhand books, and a reasonably good military histroy section.

I try and pop in every month or so and see what's new – just got lucky this time. BUT – if they had it as a remainder then it should show up in other places too.

Sounds painful.

is it the result of a bad die roll?

I got my copy two weeks ago (new condition) from the Half Price Books store in Everett for $9.98. There were three copies and I got one of them! And yes, I am a cheap bastard…
