I made one using a half-round, plastic door stopper made of white plastic. Had to scribe in the panel lines with a x-acto knife carefully, and then cut off the metal pin from the bottom. This was not easy to do, since the plastic is very hard/durable.
Then you have to drill small holes in the undersides – need at least six to look decent, to place the wires in.
I used small spring-steel wire cut to the same lengths.
Glue them in place at an angle, in the parachute material, and then together at the bottom, where they will attach to your figure.
Do a bit of a paint wash, to bring out the panel lines you cut in the door stopper.
I used a GHQ 1/285th scale figure for the parachutist. These guys are oversize, and really about 1/200th – 1/220th, so work fine. Paint as desired, and glue to the wires.
I used one long, thin wire to attach the parachutist to a base below. Ideally, this wire should go into the parachute, for added durability, so use five wires for the other control lines.
If you use a larger figure, you may need a larger parachute.
Others have used large tacks painted white, or camo green, etc.
