Hey Guys -

I am wanting to make about a dozen parachutist markers for CY6 gaming. Two problems: How to make them & where to get figures that scale or close to it? (N scale?)

I saw one idea on the CY6 Yahoo group website. How about some ideas from you guys?

Does anyone have any extra figs I could purchase or know of a site I can go to get a few figures? No hobby shops around me.

Thanks -

Kimball

Yes N scale (or 10mm or 12mm) figures would be the right size for 1/144 planes.

When you say parachuists what exactly do you want? Paras in the air, or on the ground? And do you want paratroops or bailed out pilots?

Most of the main manufacturers have paratroops on the ground, but I'm not aware of any "in flight"

Chips, some of my gashopon 1/144 WWII planes came with crew figures standing at attention who could pass for parachutists. I could spare a dozen. Write me off-board, zippy-at-fuse-dot-net, and remind me of your surface address.

Guys -

The parachutists markers I was talking about are the various pilots and crew for fighters and bombers that are shot down during a "Check Your Six" (CY6) wargame.

Thanks Zippy, I'll email you about the figs.

Guys -
Any ideas on how to make the markers?

I made one using a half-round, plastic door stopper made of white plastic. Had to scribe in the panel lines with a x-acto knife carefully, and then cut off the metal pin from the bottom. This was not easy to do, since the plastic is very hard/durable.

Then you have to drill small holes in the undersides – need at least six to look decent, to place the wires in.

I used small spring-steel wire cut to the same lengths.

Glue them in place at an angle, in the parachute material, and then together at the bottom, where they will attach to your figure.

Do a bit of a paint wash, to bring out the panel lines you cut in the door stopper.

I used a GHQ 1/285th scale figure for the parachutist. These guys are oversize, and really about 1/200th – 1/220th, so work fine. Paint as desired, and glue to the wires.

I used one long, thin wire to attach the parachutist to a base below. Ideally, this wire should go into the parachute, for added durability, so use five wires for the other control lines.

If you use a larger figure, you may need a larger parachute.

Others have used large tacks painted white, or camo green, etc.

Good ideas, Rob. Thanks.

I got some wooden plugs at Lowes, in the fancy wood section, that are shaped like a parachute. They come in various sizes so would work for different scales. I hadn't thought of the door stop. Will check that out, too.

Zippy is going to let me have a few of his figs but I will check with GHQ and see their minimum amount & cost. For figs, I'm a 20mm & 28mm guy and don't have any of the little guys.

Thanks for the ideas -
