Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has picked up this title as of yet and if so what's the concensus on it. I'm rocking back and forth on the fence whether to purchase or not. I think I'm really wanting to buy it just for the Irish Confederate content, but is it really justifiable?? I already have O'Brien's 'Irish-Americans in the Confederate Army', which considering the price when purchased is actually a pretty decent title. It has a an extensive listing of 'Irish' units from the East/West/Gulf etc.

Regards, John

Kind of a waste if you ask me.All the Federal units wore the same exact uniform anyway, with the exception of th NY units who wore the State issue jacket for awhile.Same with the Reb regts. There was no specific uniform.

Oh, get it, sight unseen. It's not as if Ospreys are expensive, or take up a lot of space.
You know you want it, or you wouldn't be asking.

Thanks for your review Scott. Much appreciated. I believe I will still get this one nonetheless. The early war uniform depictions would be interesting to check out, however as you stated as these wore out they would have been replaced with regulation dress anyways. If anything I would like to have this title for the Louisiana Irish contribution to help supplement what I already have on these units.
On a side note, have you been able to check out Sean O'Brien's "Irish Americans in the Conferedate Army'?? I have this one which was published last year by McFarland & Company. The price is a bit steep at $55.00 USD but well worth it considering what's inside the book. A good overview of the Irish in the South and a theatre by theatre breakdown of the Southern Irish contributions on ACW battlefields. The two appendicies contain an nice breakdown of regiments and companies which contained majority Irish in them and the other a breakdown of Irish officers which served in these units. A nicely done book and highly recommended.
