I'm reading "The Battle of Hastings" by Tetlow and would like to study the Bayeux Tapestry. I found a reproduction of the entire tapestry on one page (it's apparently over 30 feet long). Now I would like to find a more scholarly contemporary annotation of the tapestry. I see there are several in print. Does anyone recommend a particular book? |

link You could say I am a fan of the Bayeux Tapestry :) I don't have a single seminal work on the Tapestry, ironically enough. The reason being, that interpreting it is so open-ended, that I have felt my own efforts to be more valid than most! I do have the Scholarly Digital Editions 2003 CD on the BT, though, by Martin K. Foys, and that is excellent. It is like a book on disc, for length, but is set up as a continuous run of the BT from beginning to end, with in depth commentary throughout (citing many authorities and sources). |

In book form, 'The Bayeaux Tapestry' by David M Wilson It has the complete Tapestry in full colour, and then each page annotated in black and white at the back. |

Thanks Doug, that's a very interesting site you've put together. I saw that CD on Amazon, but wanted to wait on it as it's $75. USD I prefer a book regardless. Many thanks on the Wilson book, Fredd. If you think it's the better version, I'll pick that one up. |

I have the book fold out sheet thingie and it's pretty awesome. If you ever get the chance to stop by there do so, it's even more impressive in person. |

I have a copy of 'The Bayeaux Tapestry' by Norman Denny and Josephine Filmer-Sankey. excellent book but probably no longer in print – published by Collins, dated 1966 and at a price of 25 shillings! That's UK shillings nothing to do with Austria |

If you want the complete Tapestry full size and can't get there to borrow the real thing, the book is as close as you will get. |

"Full size", surely NOT 20 inches wide and 230 feet long? Now, THAT would be a reproduction alrighty. |
