Sorry about deceased Topic below.

Most Vulnerable Fella on a Ancient Battlefield

No 1 The Elephants Mahout

Reading all these threads on War Elephants got me a thinking.

The last place I would ever want to be, would be perched astride a nellie, you have no armour and your armed with a stick.

Some of you will say that's a safe place controlling your pet, a frenzied pachyderm nightmare stomping on everything in it's way, but I would imagine every projectile in the immediate area would be incoming heading your way.

Survival chance pretty slim – nil.

I will let someone else do

"No 2 The Scythed Chariot Driver"

Yea I'm sure that guy would be wildly popular among his captors after his charge had been completed, wouldn't he.

Or amongst his comrades if his charge was deflected back on them.

I think the term is "shoit" magnet",sort of the way the infantry feels about the armour.
Great lads to have around with lots of room, but a nightmare to babysit in close terrain.

Anyone on the losing side attempting to run away too late?

Chariot Runner always seemed like a job type that could have used a stronger union.
