Today I treated our wargaming group to a Renaissance naval battle using the WizKids Pirates of the Barbary Coast galleys. You can see a couple of pictures of part of the action here:

WizKIds did plastic galleys and I missed it?

Crap.

Good looking game btw.

With a little extra cutting and painting, the WizKids galleys look very good. I have had a Barbarossa game using them and found it to be fun. The galley packs are still around. I purchased mine at Fall IN from Cotton Jim's Flags. This is an inexpensive way to get into the period or, to decide if it is one that you would want persue. The rules are basic and easy to play. I would like to try other rules sets for the Renaissance period. Does anyone have suggestions.

Who else makes miniatures of Renaissance galleys? What scales are available?

Just a reminder that the WizKids galleys aren't to any scale. They were made to have the components fit onto the plastis card size used. They come in four styles, with one, two, or three lateen rigged masts and a large ship with a raised poop deck, three lateen rigged masts, and one gaff (I think) rigged mast. I use the latter, minus the fourth mast, as my fleet amnd squadron command ships. The others (1,2, and 3 masted) fit nicely into the rules author's class A, B, and C categories.

I got some of mine by buying the card packs but most I got from purchases off eBay where you can get the exact type of ship that you want.
