Does anyone know when the new version of Chaos in Cairo will be published? Will it have a section for creating our own characters? Will it be more for generic Egyptian and pulp gaming or tied more closely with the CoC mythos?

I spoke to the Mr Blue Moon at Historicon as I have been waiting for these rules to come out for about a year. He said that they are finished and should be ready either before or at Fall In.

IIRC he said that there will be 4 factions: Mummies, Cultists, Adventurers and one more whose name escapes me but he said they'd be like the Medjai in the Brendan Fraser films. You can also use all the original characters from the CiC first edition.

There will be Blue Moon figures released for the game, including a boxed set of Egyptian Civilians.

So from that and to answer your questions, Character creation – yes but more generic Egyptian pulp than CoC mythos.

Check the "What Are You Working On" podcast. The CiC author is one of the hosts. He mentions the progress on his rules every once in a while, but I don't specificially remember if he mentioned CiC.

You can get the podcast through iTunes or at waywo.podbean.com.

Pretty much what Sterling Moose said! Moose, I owe you five bucks!

There is no character creation per se but all the archetypes are covered so it shouldn't be too difficult to mix and match individual characters to come up with what you need.

The game is tied to the CoC mythos but again, change the setting from desert to jungle, steppe or Berlin bunker and you should be able to tailor the game to your own tastes. Also, Chaos in Carpathia is fully compatible with Cairo so you can insert the scenarios, characters, monsters, etc from that game directly into your Cairo game without any difficulty.

Coming up next, Chaos in Cochise County, a Gothic western: Vampires, Skinwalkers, gunslingers and Apaches, oh my!
