Tool Bench Hardware Painters Tape

Why do wargamers need painters tape, and is the dollar-store variety good enough?

The title says it all. These are the ones I listen to…

Podhammer
The D6 Generation
This Week in Wargaming
Meeples and Miniatures
Point2Point
What Are You Working On
The Tabletop Battlefield
40k Radio
The Drop Podcast
Baccus Podcast
Atomic Lounge
Atomic Lounge
All About Miniatures (no episode for ages)

I am torn between Podhammer and The D6 Generation as my favourite.

Does anyone know of any other wargame podcasts to listen to whilst painting?

Got to be Meeples and Miniatures. Neil's enthusiasm for the hobby is infectious.

Earthquake05 Aug 2008 5:37 a.m. PST

Thank you 'runs with scissors' :-)

BTW – Don't forget Fell Calls for all you Warmachine / Hordes / Iron Kingdoms fans

Horrors! I missed one! Didn't know about The Tabletop Battlefield – will have to go and fill up my MP3 player again to catch up…

Thnx Rat

My two favorite are Meeples and D6Generation.

Meeples for it's breadth and D6G for the humor.

Listen to most of the others except those that are GW exclusive content. Not my area of interest. But Meeples and D6G I'm pretty religious about.

I haven't heard of The Tabletop Battlefield either. Will have to track that one down.

Meeples & Miniatures for me, too, thank you!

How can you not like a show with "meeples" in the title?

TheMackster Fezian05 Aug 2008 7:23 a.m. PST

er…what gaming podcasts?

I must be in the invisible minority here that tends to totally ignore podcasts of all kinds.

Neotacha05 Aug 2008 7:28 a.m. PST

No, you're not, TheMackster. I'm not even 100% sure what a podcast is.

EagleSixFive05 Aug 2008 9:05 a.m. PST

Good topic RoT, a couple there I did not know about. Have found that listening to game podcasts whilst working on minis tends to inspire me. Don't matter if the podcast has nothing to do with what I'm working on, just nice to hear the enthusiasm and joking about.

rddfxx05 Aug 2008 10:24 a.m. PST

I'm partial to Scott and Jason on Point2Point, but they're very heavy into boardgaming (so am I).

CorpCommander05 Aug 2008 12:31 p.m. PST

Meeples and Miniatures and 40K Radio are automatically downloaded and fill my commute with interesting commentary. I have other podcasts I listen to that are science based. If it weren't for work and life I'd listen to them all. I've not tried any of the others you list but I am sure they are good for a go. I considered doing my own as a supplement to my own blog but the quality of the ones already out there is actually a barrier to entry!

Wargamer Blue05 Aug 2008 2:36 p.m. PST

Mackster and Neo, start downloading podcast's onto your MP3 player or I-pod. There is nothing better than listening to wargamers babble on about the best hobby in the world. Especially while you paint.

CorpCommander, start podcasting. I'll listen.

thedrake05 Aug 2008 6:03 p.m. PST

Mine is Deano Ware's solo wargaming podcast--good stuff there for solo gamers!

Neotacha05 Aug 2008 10:25 p.m. PST

Rat, you're making an assumption here, involving mp3s or iPods.

Wargamer Blue06 Aug 2008 1:21 a.m. PST

Crikey Neo. Quick, to the local shops and buy an MP3 player. They are as cheap as chips. Or, you can just save a show to your computer hard drive, once downloaded click on the file and listen to it on the computer whilst you browse TMP.

Meeples & Miniatures for me, hands down. Neil, if you're reading this – two thumbs up for a really stellar effort. And thanks for all the money that went out of my pocket, based on your recommendations. :-)

I've also liked All About Miniatures when it was published. Point2Point is fun to listen to now and again. And although it's stricktly boardgame and euro-related, I'd like to mention The Dice Tower.

Earthquake07 Aug 2008 1:46 a.m. PST

Thanks for all the kind words – I really do appreciate all the positive feedback.

Wargamer Blue07 Aug 2008 4:19 a.m. PST

Neil, you have to do a guest spot on This Week in Wargaming one day. That would be a great show.

Earthquake07 Aug 2008 7:53 a.m. PST

If ever I get invited, I'll take them up on it – though I'm in doubt that it will happen.

The problem is, I think, that Meeples & Miniatures is under many peoples radar for the simple reason that I don't cover 'mainstream' games.

So, you will not find much about Warhammer, W40K, Warmachine, AT-43 or Flames of War on my podcast. Rather, I look at all the 'other' rulesets out there. I'm a bit of a rules nut, and so I've got a whole host of different rules for different periods.

But it's horses for courses. Now that 'All About Miniatures' has ceased, I think I'm the only wargaming podcast covering historical miniatures games, for example.

I try and fill a niche…hopefully I can attract more peoples' interest in future.

Ogma0110 Aug 2008 11:25 p.m. PST

Another enormous fan of M&M here, but I do find it amazing that there aren't more miniatures-related podcast out there now…

Mbheagerty20 Nov 2008 10:58 p.m. PST

Shameless self promotion here: leadandcardboard.libsyn.com

As for me my favorites are Point 2 Point and Meeples and Miniatures.
