I am looking for more detailed descriptions, maps, troops involved…etc of some of the battles from this time period.

time period
1094-1110

looking for example information on Cuarte, Bairen, Consuegra, Cuenca, Ulces, Valtierra….

I have some limited written descriptions, but I wanted to know if there is any additonal information in books or magazine articles out there.

Thanks.

Do you read Spanish? There are some books that cover what you are interested.

Unfortunately my spanish is pretty bad?

If they had decent maps I might be willing to try them though :)

I am interested in the same period and during 6 weeks illness trawling the internet came up with only these:
'Grandes Batallas de la Reconquista Vol 1' (Sagrajas, Aledo, Ucles, Alarcos) published by Almeda in their Guerros Y Battallas series.

In Spanish.

'Reconquest and Crusade in Medieval Spain' Joseph O'Callaghan, pub University of Pennsylvania.

I'm afraid this only has a single chapter on your period, but is a good overview.

Thanks guys, so far I am having similar results.

Lot's of "flowery" descriptions of the battles, and legends about El Cid but not really any real useful maps or specifics of the battles.

Reconquest and Crusade in Medieval Spain (The Middle Ages Series) (Paperback)by Joseph F. O'Callaghan.

I thought this looked interesting. You could probably use it to reference other materials as apparently makes heavy use of secondary materials.

Russell, thanks that one looks interesting. I will check it out.

Here are the details from the book:

1-74780 O'Callaghan, Joseph F. RECONQUEST AND CRUSADES IN MEDIEVAL SPAIN Using both Christian & Muslim sources the author examines the military activity in Spain from the late 11th century to the mid 13th century, b/willust/maps, biblio, index.1 vol, 344 pgs 2004 PHILADELPHIA, UNIV OF PA
NEW-paper $28.00 USD

However, the period you noted is within one chapter, and the maps are not of battlefields, and there does not seem to be numbers within the book, either. For a broader overview of the wheelings and dealings, this seems to be the book to look at, but for detailed military order of battles, terrain maps, and so on, this is not what you're looking for.

Dennis,
thanks for the review.

I still may be interested, but I would really like to find some additional details on some of the major battles.

Any ideas?

anything you might carry?
