For all those out there that game in 54 plastic what is the going rate for say an airfix 1/32 painted figure? I would be looking for a traditional toy soldier look. |

Are you looking for a service? link It's cheaper to buy prepainted stuff from toys are us, target or walmart, assuming you're in the USA; forces of valor or 21st century brands. |

Thanks for the info gentlemen. The WWII selection i have seen for FOV and 21st century. Does anyone do colonials? It seems the larger companies charge between 6 and 10 dollars. I can assume this is the going rate? What rules sets are set up for 54mm, i have seen all the kings men, but have not gone thru the website completly. Are there games both for the skirmsih or larger ratios like 1-20 or 1-60? Looking forward to replys. |

I haven't tried anything made specifically for 54mm. We use Battleground WWII at half ranges, limit tanks to no more than one per side/6' of table. Our minimum table size is 6'X 12'. We've also mixed in a few rules from arc of fire. |

Is Battleground a 1-100 ratio game? i wonder if i have seen this set. GWD? At a 6-12 table how many figures do you get to use? I would be interested as i want to do a russain wargame, possibly 44, or kursk? i have been using some older 60's rules meant for 1/72 with 1/285 figures, but fell into 54's a year ago. i have been collecting marx and airfix russains and added some Tssd and italeria although these are meant, in my opinion, winter games. i have purchased a few CST t-34 and panzer IV as well as some german halftraks. i want to get a few of the 88 and some italeria antitank guns. Let me know of any rules you might know that would work with such a large tank/ combined arms battle. |

BGWWII Works best as a skirmish game, 1:1. We let players cut their squads down to fir teams instead of half squads, so when they lose a figure it hurts! We've had up to 50 on a side. Playing at this scale even with the ranges cut down makes combat up close and personal. Kursk, in 54mm you're going to need to play on the floor of your local gymnasium! I haven't heard of a good rules system for armor as yet, at least none that we all agree on. I hear people like the sets from Iron Ivan, Disposable heroes, but mostly for the infantry rules. We use the hit locations from the chart in BGWWII, and the effects from Arc of fire. Here's a great TMP link to 54mm Market Garden on a 70 foot table at Salute this year, including a video: TMP link |

What is a "traditional toy soldier look"? |

What is a "traditional toy soldier look"? Block colours, no shading highlighting, high gloss varnish finish. Although for purists, true "Toy Soldier" should be gloss enamels rather than an after paint coat of varnish. Just like the old Britains figures used to come. |

I believe RobH is correct in stating the Toy soldier paint job is very simple as the old Britians were painted. i used the word "look" because many of the current acrylic don't have the gloss and for my personell taste i like black lining for both seperation and minimal shading. I was wondering on price as many of the larger companies charge 8-10 dollars for a "traditional look" and i was wondering if this seemed to be the going rate. igwarg i will endeavor to reach you later this week to check out the photos of the figures. thanks all |
