I finally managed to complete my Motte and Bailey last night after about 6 months, whilst Junior was sleeping and I was waiting for another project to dry. It was designed so it can be used as a camp or BUA. I'm not sure I'll do it this way in future.

Very, very nice. Reminds me of the one in the WAB Shieldwall book. Is this 28mm or 15mm?

Barry S24 Jul 2008 1:21 a.m. PST

Thanks!

It is 15mm.

I have been looking at buying a copy of Shieldwall for the eye candy and modelling ideas but this model was inspired by a model on the Touching History site.

Rather nice as a model in it's own right, but it is also rather a good example of why I much prefer the "down one scale" approach to buildings for wargames (e.g. use 6mm buildings with 15mm figures). Personally, I'm not keen on the slightly "cartoony" appearance that the selective compression gives such a model as yours. YMMV of course!

Mike,

When I see tables where lots of 15mm troops are involved, such as ACW battles using Johnny Reb, I think using 10mm buildings looks much better.

However, for some unexplainable reason, I've never been keen on the idea of using 6mm or 10mm buildings with 15mm figures when playing DBA and prefer the 'cartoony' appearance, which is a term I've used to describe my models and even my miniatures (mainly Essex Miniatures) in the past.

Wonderful model as are the photos to your ACW game photos and DBA armies!
