Gorgeous. Are those 40MM? |

Wow. You guys at TSA have a very impressive set up. |

@Warwizard No, they are 28s. Mostly Redoubt, Foundry and some Perry Miniatures. Terrain is almost exclusively Total System Scenics. Glad you like it. @aercdr Yes, we were very lucky to have been able to buy our own clubhouse. That way battles can be played over several days or even continued the week afterwards. |

I noted the figures were individually mounted and I didn't see any movement trays. And file drawers full of figures! I'm almost afraid to ask the figure ratio used (1 figure = ?? men) and how many miniatures total were in play. Did you ever game with Hal Thinglum? |

We used the Johnny Reb III scale. So a 3-figure base was represented by 3 x 28mm figures. |

@gamertom Yes, the figures are individually based although the game system used was JRIII which normally uses stands. It's an easy enought matter to simulate the three and four man stands and this way the figures are usuable for several other gamesystems. Takes a bit longer to move your units but that's a price we gladly pay. At the moment the figure scale is 1:25 but Patrick S.who's army this largely is, is working towards 1:20. I know he has some 1000+ infantry and cavalry figures for each side, plus specials like dismounted cavalry, artillery batteries, medical troops and such. He's still expanding the armies, so that he will be able to represent several Union and Confederate Corps by simply changing command units. Several other clubmembers are also doing 28mm ACW especially now sinde the Perrys came out with their first plastic figures. I'm afraid I never met Hal Thinglum in person but I've read some of his articles in MWAN I believe. |

Boy, that's a lot of limbers! For me, the unit info strips really detract from the look of what is otherwise a beautiful set-up. |

You're right 79th PA. We'll have to find a less obvious way to identify our units. Maybe just a small number counter since the stats are repeated (and adjusted) on the playsheets. I've been thinking about a simple colour coded system. 1st division= white/ 1st brigade in that division White/red, next brigade White/ blue and so on. |

Looks very nice. I love big battles with JRIII. Im working at doing Longstreets Corps in both 40mm and 25mm (Both Sash & Saber & new 2nd Gen Old Glory). I modified JRIII to what I call BUS (Basic Unit Strenth) and do the data on the command stand on a triangle piece of balsa wood from the modle rail road stores. I print small but it can be read from a few feet. VR James Mattes |

A cheap way to make basing is to use cut out pieces of masonite with magnetic sheets applied to it. If your bases are all steel washers (as they appear to be) this should help considerably with movement. If you have someone in your club with a table saw he can crank out bases very quickly. You can buy a 4'x8' masonite sheet for less than $20, and I've found that you can buy large rolls (2'x4') of magnet sheet for $20-$30 at craft stores. You can even spray paint the bases green if you don't like the brown magnet color. |

I do single basing with the color codes, with upper level officers having multiple colors for their commands. Commanding Generals are blank. I didn't want rainbows chasing them. Also do the masonite with magnets for bases. Basically 2 to a unit. Makes moving much quicker. Highly recommended. My group likes the single figure look. We play a lot of skirmish type games in other eras, so it was natural to base singly for ACW. |

A friend of mine came up with an idea for marking units. He bought these little square beads from a craft store. They come in sets and each bead has a letter of the alphabet on it. They come in several colors but he kept it simple by going with black and white. Just pick a color, draw up a roster of which letter represents which unit, put the bead on the command stand and there you go. |
