This is my latest painting. It shows the Battleship PARIS arriving at LeHavre in June 1940 for the defence of that city.

Only two French battleships were ever placed in knowing, extreme risk, during WW2. These were the Courbet and Paris. Old ships of the same class that had been modernised somewhat. Paris still burnt coal as well as oil. Her service from 1938 onward had been mostly as a training ship. She was fitted with lots of light AA at Brest during May 1940.This was done in a rush and the ship was then sent on to LeHavre where she was to use her guns and AA for the defence of that port. She was badly damaged by bombing during this operation, eventually escaped to the UK, and was never fully repaired.

The work was commissioned for cover art license, but the original remains with me for sale.
