Does anyone have pictures of the Syw range by Old Glory15s? Could anyone tell me what other ranges they are compatible with
i.e Eureka,Essex etc? Ta |

MP, There are photos of some items at the OG15s website; though not all. Still, you have a good impression of the casting quality. Depending on the series you wish to collect; OG Brits and Prussian Foot are robust in comparison to Essex, yet the OG French would integrate nicely. At the Luthen Journal website, of Iaonnis, you will find some figure comparison between Eureka and OG Prussians. Essex and OG cavalry are compatable. I find the Old Glory service department are willing to help with special requests I may have with a particular order. What nationalities would you want to collect? Cheers, |

I have OG 15mm Prussians and I used Essex for Von Kleist Freikorps, Bosniaks/Uhlans and Jaegers. They work together nicely. |

Hi Mandy, I have two close-up pictures of 15mm OG SYW Prussians in my blog: link Unfortunately, I am relatively new to the period myself, so I cannot compare to Essex or Eureka. I just order some Minifigs SYW Prussians, and I hope to post a shoulder-to-shoulder comparison as soon as I will receive them 9they are in the mail already, so it should be in the next couple of days. I am looking forward to it!) As I stated in my post: I see OG miniatures in this range as rather problematic, given my limitations as a painter. Don't get me wrong: these are beautiful, detailed miniatures. My problem is that the sculpting style is just too complex for me to find my way between bags, pouches, stripes, etc. I am just not an enough good painter to succeed in painting this range. MP, My Prussian Army are all Old Glory figures. Infantry and cavalry packs come with command figures; for the musketeers, fusiliers and grenadiers this includes a mounted officer. This fits nicely with our 24 figure battalions as officers, ensigns, sergeants and drummers are evenly distributed. Within the pack are enough varied poses to create a nicely animated unit. My French are all Essex, which mean all foot are in the same pose. Cavalry look better only because the horses are in different poses. However, they do paint up quickly. I am currently collecting a British force and these are again Old Glory figures with one exception; the Generals and staff are from Essex. If you are not already a member, I would recommend joining the SYW Yahoo group. There are quite a number of photos of nicely painted 15mm Old Glory Prussians and Austrians plus a figure comparison of Old Glory and Eureka. Cheers, |

Adik1970, Just a suggestion; I would thin the dark blue and let the paint bleed into the hard to paint areas of the coats. Do not worry about the belts and straps but do carefully work around the haversack. Apply a second wash to areas that need it. For the breeches and waistcoats, I would use a medium grey wash and later highlight with white, yellow or straw colour. At the stage, when you are ready to dry brush, apply a linnen or buff colour to an old brush and highlight the straps on the back and with downward strokes work on the chest straps, just enought to distinquish the belts. This better defines the strap when applying the white. Using the same colour, lightly dry-brush the gaiters from back to front. This will pick out the buttons and the folds nicely. Good luck, |

The battle report I have up on my blog has almost entirely old glory figures. They mix well with Essex but are too large to mix with Freikorps and Minifig and too small to mix with the 18mm Eureka stuff. leidang.blogspot.com |

Leidang, thanks for sharing your battle reports – your table and figures look splendid! Do you think you may take some close-up pictures of your SYW armies? It seems you painted them with excellent details, and I would love to have a zoomed-in look! Bravo! Adik destofante.blogspot.com |

Thanks Adik
I'll take some closeups and get them posted this week. I can't take credit for most of the paint though. A couple years ago some guys were selling a collection of figs on paint sticks in the Historicon dealer area at exactly the time I was thinking about getting into SYW. I bought all of the nearly 1300 Austrian and Prussian foot for about $1 USD a piece. I also bought a couple smaller collections from others to get most of the cav. The Jagers and Grenz, Most of the artillery, and all the basing and flags are my doing though. |

"old glory figures
mix well with Essex but are too large to mix with Freikorps and Minifig and too small to mix with the 18mm Eureka stuff." That's a matter of taste. I wouldn't put them in the same units. My 15mm SYW are mostly Minifigs with some units of OG and some Freikorps. The exception are my Russians, mostly OG with Minifigs Cossacks. |

OG are "big" 15s, as such their infantry don't mix well with the differently proportioned Essex. Cavalry from both manufacturers are more similar, certainly the occasional unit, artillery train or mounted staff group from Essex won't look out of place with OGs – which is a boon for the artillery especially, as OG's limbers are a joke. Eureka's SYW range is beautifully sculpted, but noticeably larger than OG's from the samples I've seen, with heavier horses too, so I don't think they'd mix easily. Freikorps and Minifigs on the other hand are much smaller than your OG reference. |
