I know TMP can be somewhat
shall we say
"chilly" when it comes to copyright, but hopefully a couple of twenty year old Dragon articles that are never to be back in print won't frost anybody. Anyway, I am looking for an article on Traveller Mutants from Dragon 109 called "The Double Helix Connection." Also for one of the following: "Relief For Traveller Nobility" #73 "Of Nobles and Men" by Paul Vernon #103 Thanks. |

Actually, I think "Of Nobles and Men" is wrong. I'm looking for the article in which a noble player character got to roll on a chart for various perks, like an imperial appointment or an estate. Again, thanks. |

Hi I have the Dragon CD-Roms. I'll try to did them up and find the articles for you. |
Mephistopheles | 03 Jul 2008 1:59 p.m. PST |
Much obliged! BTW: I wish I could get those CDs. Are they still in production? |

However, you can still find them on ebay. |

Looks like not. Amazon only lists second-hand copies, with the lowest at $179.95: link Ebay looks more promising: auction |

The Paul Vernon article in issue 103 is actually titled "Of Nobbles and Men", although it's spelled "Nobles" in the index in issue 112. (A nobble is a large herbivore, similar to a rhino, if the illo is anything to go by.) And, no, the article didn't have anything to do with rolling for perks. |
Mephistopheles | 03 Jul 2008 2:35 p.m. PST |
Very nobble of you to point that out. However, there was this additional article matching the description I gave. |
jpattern2 | 03 Jul 2008 2:38 p.m. PST |
Yeah, I'm looking for it, gimee time . . . |
Farstar | 03 Jul 2008 2:47 p.m. PST |
The article about rolling for Noble perks may be from Adventure Gaming Magazine (IIRC). I want to say the title was "Scepter & Starship" but I could be wrong. Deep in the CT era, in a magazine with a short run by a company long gone

Wow, guess that (having them on CD) pretty much makes my hard copy magazines of Strategic Review and early Dragon magazine (not all 250 by any means) pretty much only valuable to me. Oh well, I read them for nostalgia so it's no big deal. Alas, I don't have anything that high in number. Gracias, Glenn |

Farstar nailed it! I went through all the Traveler articles in Dragon, and there's no article like you describe, Meph. But Google turned up an article called "Scepter and Starship" by Charles Ahner in the June 1981 issue of Adventure Gaming. A further Google search turned up this online article, based on "Scepter and Starship", that should meet your needs: link And, yes, Ebay is your best bet for the Dragon magazines. Dragon 73 for $2.40 USD and up: auction Dragon 109 for $1.99 USD and up: auction |

. . . pretty much only valuable to me. Not at all, Glenn. For one thing, the CDs were only available for a short while, and they're pretty rare. For another, the collection only went up to issue 250. Dragon is no longer published, which makes back issues that much more desirable to some collectors. Finally, some people just like having the hardcopies, especially issues with favorite cover artists or that contain articles by favorite authors. If you really want to sell, though, the early issues, and especially issues of The Strategic Review, can go for a good price. SR#1 recently went for $65.57: auction |

Yeah, but those CDs take up a hell of a lot less space than 250 copies of a magazine would
|
jpattern2 | 03 Jul 2008 3:50 p.m. PST |
Heh! No kidding, Doc. not nearly as big a fire risk, either. If Paizo ever releases CDs for the entire run of Dragon, right up to the last published (hardcopy) issue, I'll spring for them and put the 1-250 collection of CDs on Ebay. |
Farstar | 03 Jul 2008 5:30 p.m. PST |
Paizo was just a licensee, and WotC considered the 1-250 compilation a mistake, IIRC. |
jpattern2 | 03 Jul 2008 5:35 p.m. PST |
Farstar, I remember reading that somewhere, too. |
Warbeads | 03 Jul 2008 7:23 p.m. PST |
$65 USD for a three page paper "magazine" – wow. Mine is not as pretty but fortunately I kind of like the memories it evokes a lot. Okay, now I ahd to go see just what I had in my small collection: Strategic Review Vol. 1, 1-5 Vol. 2, 1-2 (aka as the last) The dragon Vol. 1; 1-6 Vol. 2; 1 Then it's spotty, very spotty
Vol 3;4, 8, and 9 Number 131 (7 articles about underground stuff) Number 291 (Gnomes, for the wife) Wow, I think I'm reminded that I am "old"( per my kids
) Gracias, Glenn |

Those early Dragons have been going for *big* bucks on Ebay. I think I remember something like $300 USD for issue 1 in the recent past, but I might be misremembering. But I'll take all of your Strategic Reviews and Dragons 1-3 off your hands for the low, low price of $19.95. (Shipping not included.) :) |
