I am looking for the following book. Shikhab ad-Din Mukhammad an-Nasavi, Sirat as-Sultan Dzhalal ad-Din Mankburny (Zhizneopisanie Sultana Dzhalal ad-Dina Mankburny), ed. Z. M. Buniiatov, in the series Pamiatniki pis'mennosti Vostoka, vol. CVII (Moscow: Vostochnaia Literatura, 1996) I've seen 2 copies; 1 is in Russin and Arabic; the other is in Arabic. The title of the Arabic one is simply Sirat al-Sultan Jalal al-Din Mingbirdi by Nasawi. I'm currently in Egypt and can't find it here. The book store owners keep telling me I can only find it in Cairo, but none of the bookshops have it. I want to purchase the book – either copy will be fine. There is a French version translated by Houdas but I have't seen a copy of this one. If anyone knows of any contacts or suggestions as to where I can find it I'm all ears. I have contacted the people with OMM and they have a contact in Moscow but they were unable to find it. Salaam Chris |

Have you tried Malawi's on the corner of Alamaba and 4th in Cairo? Just kidding! See you when you get back! |

The book is out of print: link You will need to go to a book supplier that deals in rare and out of print books. Good luck finding it in Egypt. Where exactly are you in Egypt? - Greg P.S. I love Egypt and hope I can get back there again! - Greg Pitts email – epaminondas123@verizon.net |

UCLA Libraries render the title a little oddly: Sīrat as-Sulṭān Dzhalāl ad-Dīn Mankburny = Zhizneopisanie Sultana Dzhalal ad-Dina Mankburny / Shikhāb ad-Dīn Muḳhammad an-Nasavī ; izdanie kriticheskogo teksta, perevod s arabskogo, predislovie, kommentariĭ, primechanii︠a︡ i ukazat Might be causing problems if anyone in Cairo was using an English computer system to search for the title. :) |

Try a note to Mr. Meeuws at Thornton's: thorntonsbooks.co.uk They're currently showing only a couple of volumes of the series in their stock, but they may be able to find a copy for you. Allen |

Not the book you are looking for but if you are generally looking for sources that cover Jalal al-Din he is mentioned in parts of the Tabakat i-Nasiri which you can get in English translation (albeit a Victorian one) by a Major-General Raverty. Search Abebooks and you should be able to get it cheap from India. |

Nick, I do have the Tabakt-i-Nasiri books which do have good information, but I still want the Sirat. I did try Abebooks but no luck. aecurtis, thanks for the link. I e-mailed them so lets if they have any luck. jovian1, I picked up a shisha for us to have a nice smoke once in a while. You don't how bad I want to make a joke out of this but I won't
if you know what I mean. (inside joke for the rest of you). GRPitts, I am in Alexandria and will be here for a total of 2 months. Last weekend I went over to Cairo to visit the pyramids, Salah al-Din citidal (a little dissappointed about the military museum) and the National Egyptian Museum. I also went to a park to check out the Ayyubid wall. Our tour guide kept saying the Fatimids came after the Ayyubids therefore the upper part of the wall was Fatimid. I corrected him, but he wasn't convinced. I'm studying Arabic at the Arabic Language Center here in Alex. nashoofek C |

Imperial Forge, Thanks for the link. Sadly, I can't read Russian. I can read (or at least studying to read) Arabic. C |

I found the Cairo eddition. I took me a while but thanks to the help from several people at the maktaba iskendira (Alexandria Library) I was able to track down where to buy the book. The cost is 20 ginnie (approx 4 USD or 2.5 EURO). I don't have the address/phone number with me at the moment but if anyone wants it let me know and I'll post it. Keep in mind it is in Arabic. |
