Isn't Kriegsspiel (or some derivation thereof) the perfect campaign system? Fog of War is implemented perfectly, etc. and really the blocks on the map can represent whatever the damn hell you want it to. If opposing forces come into contact with eachother, than you send the players to the battlefield with whatever ruleset you happen to be using(be it flames of war, warhammer fantasy/40k, warmachine, johnny reb, fields of glory, etc. etc. etc.). Hell, it even scales nicely with some systems. Take a warhammer fantasy/40k campaign. Smaller actions can be resolved with 40k/fantasy, while larger confrontations can be moved into the realm of epic/warmaster! Any thoughts on this? |

To make it even more realistic, have one set of players play Kriegspiel, and another set of players play the tabletop battles that occur
Just like real life :-) |

chaos0xomega – You're absolutely right. Kriegsspiel can just "bolt on" to any set of rules. For anything prior to rail or motor transport it works exactly as its written. For more modern stuff you just need to add a few amendments and you're there. Last years we used kriegsspiel to run the map side of a wwii campaign, fighting the engagements on the tabletop with the most suitable set of rules – TW&T for platoon level games, IABSM for company level and larger. All I had to supplement the 1824 rules was one page of amendments with more modern march rates on there. I bought a set of kriegsspiel rules from Bill Leeson twenty five years ago and they have been the bestbuy I ever made, they are a useful reference work for any campaign you're running, whatever the period. I am very glad to now publish them so that others can get the same benefits. We're at toofatlardies.co.uk |

I totally agree. The most crucial part however, as with any campaign, is the Umpire! |

After examining the logistical systems, transportation routes and production systems, the best movement systems for pre-1900s is a poiont to point system or on a strategic level area movement works well. For a world wide campaign the Risk map works. if you like areas for Europe, the Castle Risk maps works. |

Forgot to ask. i am assuming that the Kriegspiel game is the Avalon Hill Classic with a hex map. |

Hi Rudy Kriegsspiel (double S in the middle) is the original Prussian Army wargame system that was first published in 1824. It is now published by TooFatLardies. At present we produce the 1824 and the 1862 rules along with the the Meckel Map and the Koniggratz map and a set of twelve scenarios. From the 1824 system it is entirely possible to develop campaign systems to cover any period in history. |

Hey toofatlardies, I saw your add on TMP a couple of weeks back about Kriegsspiel, that was when I first became familiar with KS actually. I will be ordering a copy from you some time in the near future, but right now I'm entirely broke (and can't find a job for my life. Curse the american economy and this small backwater town
). |

chaos0xomega – I'm sorry to hear of your situation. If you give me a shout via our web site I'll send you some Kriegsspiel related stuff to be getting on with – no charge. Cheers Rich |

No don't worry about it. I get paid (irregularly) to do landscaping stuff and watch my younger brother while my mom is at work. I just have a few other things that I have to shell out money for first (replacing my cell phone, buying the last couple of units I need for a 40k tourny army that I need to have finished by teh 14th, etc. etc.). My financial situation should stabilize by the middle of next month, when you'll be receiving an order for some of your product (compendium CD,and 1862 rules (maybe the Koniggratz map as well if I got the spare $$))! Thanks for the offer though! And in case you misunderstood, I'm a college student, not some unfortunate guy a good bit older than me that got laid off. I'm SUPPOSED to be broke :p |
