I've just posted a bunch of photos and a battle report for our Warhammer Ancients Normans and Vikings game that we played last night.

Enjoy.

Nice report, and nice looking figures! In one frame, there is a very cool Viking(?) figure…any idea who made it? He's the fellow in the center with the dot on his base.

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure he's a Foundry.

Hrothgar, I think that is a Foundry Viking from pack VIK 1/6, Bondi with Swords, link

I've got to agree with Hrothgar: those are very good looking Vikings!

I finished my Viking army a couple months ago, and they are all based on washers. Next up is somebody for them to fight. How do you like mounting the horsemen on two washers? It's different--are there any problems, or any advantages, aside from the obvious no need to buy two different kinds of bases?

The majority of my vikings are Foundry and they are nice figs. The rest of my collection is made up of Gripping Beast and I am sure one day I add Crusader and Artizan to force. In WAB Vikings vs. Normans is a classic battle and I have had a few. Always a tight fight and the Normans have got to time their cav charges at the right moment to carry the day. If it turns into a meatgrinder the momentum tends to favor the Vikings. I think this is mainly due to the fact the Norman player often tends to sink many points into the knights and forget about the strength of their infantry which is very impressive. If you do not hurt the vikings with a well placed cav charge and roll up on of their flanks then numbers will give the vikings the best chance to win.

Grelber -- the two washers works fine for me. I agree that it's different, but I haven't found any issues. I started doing it for precisely the reason you might think. I didn't want to buy two different kinds of bases. Now they all stick to my magnetic vinyl movement trays and storage boxes.

I also use 1 inch washers, instead of a smaller 3/4 inch one. I just think that offers more stability on the gaming table and works to keep the figures from rubbing up against each other so much.

What size table were you playing on? Methinks the Normans would have fared much better on a larger table.

WAB is a far more subtle game than people give it credit for.

The Foundry figure Hrothgar asked about is from pack VIK 3/1 link he's the one named Thrond Arnorsson.
