I have heard of several ways to game on-line with friends. With the high price of fuel, my face-to-face games may be cut back. Is there a recommended site to meet friends for on-line wargaming? I don't mean WOW. I recall people talking about good old games like "Blue Max" or "Wooden Ships and Iron Men". I know some gamers that play specific sorts of games on company sites, like RPGs, but I would rather play more traditional wargames, and with people I know rather than strangers. |

The only one that I know of (but have never played) is the Vassal game engine (see : link ) It might be what you are looking for. |

I think this is the one you heard mentioned. Only a couple games but they do have the rules implemented. vampiring.com/play/main.asp Vassal does not apply the rules, it merely provides the boards and counters, much like a virtual tabletop. That said, there is a large number of games covered and it works well once you get the hang of it.

Those are two good leads. Thanks, guys! The 2nd site is the one a friend was mentioning, I think. I'll check them out. |

There is also Virtual Tabletop coming, like Vassal, it does not apply the rules, but instead provides an environment, networking and dice rolling. racingspidergames.com If you want to get a pre-beta version, post on the forum over there. |

Artslave, I'm developing a website, mainly designed for PBEM miniatures gaming (but it is generic enought to be used for various turn based games like board games and even RPGS) . THe idea is that the site provides a central point for GM to update moves, post text & maps, pics etc.. and mangage the turns
I have run several WWII skirmish games using the site and have 1 or two other gms also running games to help me develop it
If you are interested, I'd be glad to give you more details and set you up with a login if you want to try running a game on the site! Regards, CHris H. chris@chtechnical.com 661-435-5999 the site is chtechnical.com/skirmish |
