I may be the last person to have spotted this but SELWG won't be on again this year as the building works at Crystal Palace are over-running [no great surprise there!]

As you say, no surprise. Who else gets the feeling that the 2012 Olympics are going to be the most expensive, embarrassing fiasco ever. That is if they are not cancelled due to athletes being unable to compete in a building site! Or cancelled due to lack of interest. I live in London and have yet to meet anyone who supports the bloody thing! |

The London Olympics are a joke! They will be an embarassment and financial mill stone for years to come. Stafford have just built a new swimming pool, did they take this oppourtunity to give our olympic hopefuls a proper training facility with a 50m pool? No they built a 25m pool and even worse the old pool had a diving pool which was used regularly, the new pool hasn't got a diving pool! Why did we need a new pool? Because the old site was sold for housing! Australia pumped millions into sport for the Sydney Olympics to make sure they did well, we are doing nothing. Roland |

When it was first announced that London was going to bid for 2012, my son [only aged about 7-ish at the time]said
"why are we doing that
it'll cost lots and lots of money and it'll make London really crowded and horrible"
maybe he should have run for Mayor! |

I'm an East London resident. So as not to get myself Dowghoused, I will refrain from saying what I think of the London Olympics. |

the absence of SELWG means i'll definitely be going to firepower at woolwich in august. |

London is getting the Olympics? I had no idea. Then again, I'm an American

SELWG is one of my favorite British shows. I don't mind the mildly inconvenient rail journey, and on one memorable year, I braved the Inner Ring Road with a hire car to get there from Camberley. Thank heavens for Sunday morning traffic
I look forward to the show's eventual restoration in its proper venue. Allen |

<<Or cancelled due to lack of interest. I live in London and have yet to meet anyone who supports the bloody thing!>> We have a cunning plan to drug test all the athletes the moment they arrive in the UK, send home all who fail (ie pretty much everyone), and we can then cancel the Games. |

Excuse a Yank there lads, but how many members does SELWG have and how in the heck are they putting on the Olympics? Hylton and Olley and all those guys will tear their hair out with all the little figures they'll have to paint and who's going to design the terrain with all that Greek adornment. Yessir, I know you Brits can put on a demo game, but my hat is really off to you this time. You guys got some big stones there. |

Lets see London Olympics or Selwg? its not my absolute favourite show but it still wins hands down over a bunch of minority sports that are going to stuff up my city for the next four years, cost me a fortune, and probably embarrass the entire country. Absolutely pointless
unless you happen to be on some olympic gravy train committee, in which case I'm sure its a handy little earner |

Too bad about SELWG. Together with Bovington one of my favourite shows. Wll have to try Colours again. Olypics in London? Not going to happen. They won't have enough athletes left after the China Olympics. |

Just one question – why does it have to be at Crystal Palace ? How about the Fairfield Hall in Croydon ? (I do not know how much the event costs to stage, so apologies if you have already considered other venues and discounted them on the basis of prohibitive costs). Regards |

British disease to knock investment. Manchester is still on a roll post the Comonwealth Games. |

No Thanks. We had the Olympics in 1920. Still recovering from it

"British disease to knock investment. Manchester is still on a roll post the Comonwealth Games" Except its not remotely comparable
a bit like comparing Salute or Historicon with "my local wargames club does its annual show in the scout-hut"

Typical Londoners---Err don't want the Olympics bah humbug!!! What a boring bunch of Victor Meldrews!! I think it's brilliant that we got the games a real boost for London and for the UK
Would you rather the French beat us????? |

Does London really need the Olympics to get it on the map? Surely it's already one of the top 5 world cities, maybe top 3 even. |
