all of my historic books have been about the horse and musket era, but now I want soem ww2 books. those that i'm most intrested inn are the books of Cornelius Ryan, the longest day and a bridge too far as I loved the movies, but how much more info do you get from the books.
do you get more of the story. like pegasus brigde, which is only about 5 minutes in the movie, but do you learn any more from the books, is there a chapter of it own about all the "scenes" from the movie? and are the books still availbale |

I like the Cornelius Ryan books. My favorite is The Last Battle, about the battle of Berlin. You do indeed get more info/insight/anecdotes in the books than in the movies (LD and aBtF). I doubt that many editions have anything about the movies. Abebooks and lots of well-stocked used bookstores liklely have them. |

I din't mean the book would coment on the movie, but that the short scences in the movies might have a chapter of its own. like pegasus brige or the 82nd airborne drops ect. I would also like to get more info about the french involment |

I love The Last Battle with Heinrici Trying to keep the German army out of Berlin. And the Russians ended up pushing the Panzer crops into the city. The Communist women who had been waiting for the Russians for 4 yrs hiding in diffrent areas in Berlin from the SS. when hey arrive she was rapped by them also. |

If you want to know more on the battle for Pegasus Bridge, I suggest Stephen Ambrose's excellent book. |

You can't go wrong with Cornelius Ryan, but here are some of my other favorites covering both the western and eastern fronts: 'Band of Brothers' by Stephen Ambrose (made into excellent HBO miniseries) 'The Americans at D-Day' and 'The Americans at Normandy' by John C. McManus. 'No Simple Victory' by Norman Davies 'Armageddon' by Max Hastings '1942' by Winston Groom 'Stalingrad' by Anthony Beevor |

One word about the Ambrose books, the Pagasus Bridge one definately falls into the written by the winner catergory. Take just how wonderfully it all worked etc with a pinch of salt. I am not saying it wasn't an exclelent operation, well done, but there has been some burnishing of its acheivements in the years since. |

there is one thing tho. in the movie longest day, we see the 82nd with crickts. while my souces say that it was infact only the 101st that had them. is this a misstake done by the book or was it something the movie did wrong? |

I would add The Bitter Woods by John Eisenhower--himself a general--about the Bulge campaign. Very good. Panzer Battles by von Mellenthin is also good for the German perspective. Natokina. |
