Can anyone help me with Italian North Africa uniforms – pre-Nov. '43?

Were parts of the continental green-grey uniforms used there as well as the sand? Did soldiers mix up sand and grey clothes and helmets? I'd like to know to see if I can use the figures for Crete too.

I'd also like to know what the tank driver uniform was. There are the only pics I've got and though they're early war, he's in grey.

Thanks a lot

Uniform is mostly tropical kit, there are some odd bits of the European uniform, especially in Tunisia. Helmets are a mix of 33 pattern steel, and the various tropical helmets.
You do find the MSVN units in the European uniform more than the regulars.

Tankie uniform is a blue-grey boiler suit affair, can also be a light blue colour too. They also wear a leather coat, and a tankers helmet thats not a lot different to the one that the "crazy frog" wears!!! ;-]]]

some troops in 1940 that arrived straight from Italy with only sunhelmets, otherwise full continental kit. I have also seen pictures were the troops appear to wear the grigio verde puttes or tall socks with tropical uniforms

I think lots of shortages led to mixed kit, but mostly tropical as Villageidiot points out

Oh and troops in Tunisia also arrived in continental uniforms in late 42-43
