I've just exhumed my example of this – first time it's seen light of day in many a year. I don't suppose it is still made but it is a good gaming model.

Does anyone have any links to pics of these in use – preferably painted; I'd like to see what others have done with it.

The Kong game we played with the wall starts halfway down the page and runs chronologically up towards the top

I recall seeing an incredible conversion of a GW Mighty Fortress into a Dracula's lair-style gothic castle. Not sure where that was, will try to find the site again.

Hrothgar – There's a thread on the Lead Adventure Forum with photos of a terrific Dracula's castle made with the current polystyrene Warhammer Fortress, rather than the old Mighty Fortress. Could that be what you were thinking of? If not, it's still worth checking out!

GreatScot7215 May 2008 9:43 a.m. PST

Steve, you are absolutely right. I really thought that was the old Mighty Fortress. Thanks for the correction..that is an awe-inspiring conversion, and I am glad to know where to find it again.

chronoglide, that's a great looking Kong figure. Is that plastic or metal? Also I do not recognize those native figures, what brand are those? Thanks.

Chronoglide – it looks well in that setting and I see you, er, modified the gate…

While you're here, what's happened to your mate, Polynikes? I haven't seen him round here for a while.

"that's a great looking Kong figure. Is that plastic or metal? Also I do not recognize those native figures, what brand are those? Thanks."

I'm not chronoglide (obviously) but I think I can answer your questions.

The Kong figure is a plastic gorilla by Schleich. My four year old has it, it's nice.

The natives seem to be Copplestone's Ngoni and Foundry female warriors from their Darkest Africa line (sculpted by Copplestone).

More on topic – I traded my old GW mighty fortress years and years ago for a copy of one of the Realms of Chaos books and some cash. Apart from its tendency to get dented, I thought it was a decent set.

If Poly could be located I'm sure he;d be able to furnish you with the figure details…i was only playing, it was all his game…
Doug, as far as i know he's fit and well, saw him a few weeks ago for a game of Rouge Trader (sic)…as to his frequenting TMP, I know he was becoming a bit jaded with the arguements that were cropping up and he's a member of several other boards that he visits. You're in Hereford, aren't you? He doesn't live that far away from the City of the Bull…

Doug em4miniatures15 May 2008 1:34 p.m. PST

You're in Hereford, aren't you?

Yeah – well, a little south of the City itself. I knew he's in this area though I've never met him. Which reminds me, there's some sort of wargames group starting in Hereford library so maybe those of us from these parts will gravitate towards it at some time.

he lives to the north, but still within the county boundary…he's a staunch Herefordian, bless his heart, and it is a beautiful part of the world….second only to Surrey, of course…:-)

I have one of the old foam ones around here somewhere. I wonder if there's a market for it…

You will see lots more of it in the Gothic Horror area of the Lead Adventure forum.

If you want to knwo anymore about the model, drop me a PM.

malamute16 May 2008 1:21 a.m. PST

Ps Poly is alive and well and frequenting The Lead Adventure Forum, you will find him there.

Doug em4miniatures16 May 2008 1:48 a.m. PST

Malamute – outstanding! Thanks for sharing that, at the very least, it's inspires me to actually paint my version. I think I spotted one of the old Grenadier dungeon doors in one of the pics – it fits in perfectly (the damaged double doors with winged gargoyle motif on the arch). Really impressive work.

Lead Adventurers Forum? Don't know that one – must have a look.

Thanks Doug,
Ye indeed it is an old Grenadier door set. It was lucky, I had that piece for years, I knew I woudl find a use for it eventually!

There are some more photos of the model in action with figures in situ on the gothic Horror board at LAF.

Here is a link to the LAF:

Malamute – that is awesome beyond words!

Doug em4miniatures16 May 2008 3:35 a.m. PST

LAF – I've signed up; another excuse for doing "research" rather than real work grin

Malamute – just checked out the Dracula story on LAF, featuring the castle. Very enjoyable (and Mighty Fortress contributions from Polynikes as well). Any other threads on there showing the castle?

Hi Doug, there maybe if you trawl back through the older posts. But the best photos are my displaced ones and the story on LAF.
