I've got a bunch of MechWarrior figures from Wizkids that my son plays with. He is more interested in the Mechwarriors themselves and not the infantry or tanks. I was looking to set up a game of DSII with these pieces, but I can't stand to look at the large clickable bases and was considering rebasing them. Anyone have experience getting the tanks and infantry off the bases and if so what's the easiest way to handle this?

For the infantry, I just stuck an Xacto knife between the clix base & the base the infantry is cast on to & popped them off. I've read here on TMP that putting the figures in the freezer might help, making the glue more brittle.

Haven't tried it yet with vehicles.

I leave them on the base, for now

i've rebased plenty of mechs, but infantry and vehicles will be my next project (for DSII also). The mechs come off easily enough, just slide a knife underneath and pop the glue.

Yep, knife underneath and they just sort of pop loose. Same goes for MageKnight figs. Much, much easier to get of the base than many of the D&D and Dreamblade figs, which take considerable amounts of…persuasion.

Hundvig…..tell me about it…dreamblade are cast integral bases…have to be cut free….easier to cut my fingers than cut them off…which i nearly did, trying to sly a stanley blade through some….how inconsiderate of WotC to make them so hard to kitbash…lol

Did it. Wow, a lot easier than I thought. I had visions of me hunched over a pile of these things, frustratingly sawing away at them with a hacksaw. In the end it took about 20 minutes for about three dozen. The frustration was there alright, but brought on by the Red Wings game and not at all by the figures. Bad call Ref…bad call. Thanks everyone for the help!

Just have gap filling super glue at the ready for the unavoidable: "#$%@! #$%@! Its in the bone!! Owwwwwww!"

At least when I cut Horroclix/ Mechs from the bases, that is what will sooner or later be heard!

Shepherd15 May 2008 5:46 a.m. PST

Lol. Yeah, I was ready for that one as I was cutting them off with a box cutter (not recommended). Thankfully all digits remain intact.

You'll have to dig into the cockpits to extract the mechwarriors.
