An Army officer cheated death when a rocket-propelled grenade bounced off him during combat in Afghanistan, it was revealed today.

Of course! We also have rules for the Royal Marine that survived smothering a hand grenade with his chest. They're in our new d1000 supplement (and you thought that 1000 sided die was useless)!

Armor save

Counts as a missed shot but target pinned

Dumb luck (name a game using dice that doesn;t have dumb luck)

Sounds like the using the old Twilight 2000 RPG rules. Direct hit with a grenade no problem just a scratch…funny we never played with those rules again. Maybe we were too hasty back then.

Heh. That's pretty funny, since the much-maligned Warhammer 40K rules actually do allow for that sort of thing with the whole "one always fails to wound" thing. Mind you, I'm pretty sure counting on an RPG round to bounce off your torso is *more* foolish than playing a round of Russian Roulette, but still…

more interesting story than the one about lily allen's bumps….no, don't look…it's frightening…

GW games do have a high freak occurence factor. Las-Cannons bouncing off flack vests, Giant Rocks ricocheting off a slightly scaly Lizard, Giant pits of hell failing to suck people in on a 6.

Nice to see it happening in real life. I once had a scaffolding pole fall from 30 feet up endways on hit me on the shoulder and glance of the buckle on my back-pack. Bruised rather than implaed was the result.

But I can imagine an RPG bouncing off your chest – they are not meant as Anti Personel weapons after all.

It all depends on the angle of impact…

I realize Bill's question was in jest but if I had in my hands a rule set that would take into account such an unlikely detail, I would put the rules down and not bother with them.

There are so very many odd things that can happen that are just outside the realm of even 5 percentile dice (results 1-10,000) and it is impossible for any rule set to come up with all this stuff.

Mind you, a simple rule such as for rolling effects of an AP hit on a tank with 2d6 where snake eyes is always no effect regardless of the calibre of gun or thinness of armour for any odd reason – passes through and through the tank with no effect, fails to detonate, just nicks the target and goes on, etc, or even something totally unlikely (like Lt Robertson's experience) – is fine as long as a rules writer doesn't make himself look silly by trying to come up with a long table full of such possiblities.
