I know the dimensions of the 3 base types, I just need some guide lines on what goes on what type. I'm looking at re-basing my WW-II collection and would like to use the defacto standard (no problem playing CD or Crossfire with these bases). |

Small bases are used for command teams and observers (2 or 3 figures). Medium bases for infantry (4-5 figures), HMG teams, mortar teams, Artillery staff teams (some blokes around a map usually on a table), guns with crews of 4 or less that fit on the base Large bases for cavalry, big guns and objectives. That's about it. |

Does it matter in the rules if your bases are LARGER than the recommended sizes? |

Doesn't matter a lot. But I can cram a lot more of my HMG teams on small bases into a building than can my opponent with HMGs on medium bases. But then again, more of mine can be crammed under a blast template too. Oh, one- or two-man weapons teams, like bazookas, are usually on small bases. These are weapons that are not integral to a rifle team. Rob |

Most times vehicles aren't based. Some do, probably most don't. Anyway, my sets with vehicles certainly didn't come with any bases. |

I base all vehicles for my FOW stuff, mostly so I have somewhere to put magnetic basing for transport in metal tool boxes. As vehicle bases aren't used in playing the game I use a few intermediate sizes that provide more efficient storage: 1"x1.25" (Small): Jeeps etc 1"x2": most light tanks, SdKfz250 etc. 1.25"x2" (Medium): PzIII etc 1"x2.5": long & narrow eg SdKfz231, 251 1.25"x2.5": most medium tanks like PzIV, Sherman, T34 etc 2"x2.5" (Large): big tanks eg Tiger, Panther 1.25"x3.75": large & narrow eg SdKfz18 2"x3.75": very large/diorama style: AA halftrack with trailer, flail tanks A few things might need even bigger bases eg Churchill Crocodile. |

Vehicles don't need basing. However, the newer resin single-piece transports and the like have integral bases; trucks are on medium bases, jeeps are on small. Annoyingly, universal carriers are on a base that looks small, but is longer. |
