Dated to 46 A.D., so apparently made in his lifetime. That's incredible.

Wow!
The other items found seem interesting too.

Seems to be some controversy based on the comments as to whether it's Caesar or Augustus.

I wonder how they found that site. That would be interesting. What an amazing find.

That Syrian wall painting is pretty amazing as well. Reminds me of my father-in-law's paintings.

Legionary Pullo: :::admiring a new bust of Caesar:::
"Ahhh.. now this is a nice bit of keepsake, don't you think?"

Centurion Vorenus: "Did you keep any of the gold you found?"

Legionary Pullo: "CACK!! Forgot about that bit." ::::tosses bust into river::::

Thanks for the post. Very interesting. Can't wait to see more stuff uncovered.

46BC, I hope, to have been from JC's lifetime.

It does look like him, but I doubt that is Augustus. Even at an old age he was very careful to only allow young portraits made of himself. He was trying to portray himself as the young, new leader in Roman politics. So, he wouldn't be pleased with this aged bust.

Still, looks very much like his younger busts. Maybe in a fit of rage he dumped it in the river?

Ancient bust. Reminds me of a scene in "There's Something About Mary".

Ha, ha. They called Caesar "Emperor."

Nothing makes you feel superior like getting to be pedantic and point out others' trivial errors!

Aaarggghhh… 46 B.C. it is. Apparently I had an attack of alphabetaphasia. :P
Thanks for catching my error.

(And dang it, we still need an edit function!!!)

I think you can safely ignore the comments on an AOL news thread. :-P

That's how they knew it was legit. On the bottom in said Corvus Belli 46BC, good sculpt.

Sure beats the crap out of what passes for "art" these days.
