I just had a flashback, I used to play a pirate video game (Sega Genesis maybe). It was campaign style in the Caribbean. You could choose the nationality of your pirate (Dutch, Spanish, English, French), and there were numerous aspects to the game: operations (sailing in the caribbean looking for ships, sailing to port, assaulting forts, ship to ship action (different sized boast that shot volleys of cannons: 1, 2, 3, etc. balls), one on one duels with other captains. It was a great game, just can't remember its name…can anyone help me? Thanks!

Sid Meier's "Pirates"?

I had the original for my (Tandy!) PC. Not sure that it was available for SEGA.

It was Sid Meier's "Pirates" and I am almost positive that I played it on Nintendo, not sure about Sega though.

There is an updated version available as well.

That game is now available for the XBox.

There definitely was a Sega version of 'Pirates!' (it actually was 'Pirates!: Gold'), and I'm certain that's the game Honor and Offer is remembering.

Pirates Gold! That was it, thanks Gents!

Sid Meiers came out with a newer version of "Pirates Gold" called "Pirates" (Which is rather circuler because Pirates Gold was a updated version of his old PC game "Pirates" from the CGI days.)

So Sid Meier's has 3 games about pirates – The very old "Pirates" from the CGI days, the "Pirates Gold" game from the win98 days, and the new "Pirates" released just 2 years ago.

Got all that?
