What are the most common, or most annoying, painting mistakes you have seen on ACW painted figures? I mean things like a collection where all the Confederate infantry are in light blue trousers.

I'm not talking about sculpting mistakes. Please feel free to start another thread for those!

My son did some Bereden's Rifles for me. Painted the belts white instead of black.

But hey, if your kid takes the time to paint some figs, you had better not be complaining -- be glad!

Too numerous to name. The latest one always seems to be the worse. Look on the back of the new Perry plastics. Those painting examples are just wrong. The Berdan's sharpshooter pic is just off the planet. Who researched that stuff?!

>Look on the back of the new Perry plastics.

Thats where I got the idea for this thread.

>Too numerous to name

Go on, enumerate them!

I wish I had the box at work with me. Sadly I have to do work. Just forget about the box and look at other sources and ignore whatever is on the box. That's the safe way.

My latest was gluing a texas flag upside down still trying to work out how to fix it as everytime i look at it my stomach turns.

please feel free to laugh or cry

I hate when the pants droop down the ass on the younger Rebs and their boxer shorts show through.
That, and the mullets.

It's annoying to see whole regiments (I once saw a whole brigade of them!) of Wheat's Special Battalion zouaves, the Louisiana Tigers.

In fact, the Tiger Zouave uniform was worn by just one company of one small battalion for a few months in 1861.

In fact, the Tiger Zouave uniform was worn by just one company of one small battalion for a few months in 1861.

That makes them special, which is why every army has a regiment of them. evil grin

Rushing to finish some Union infantry I ended up painting with dark blue overcoasts rather than the correct lights blue. THe irony is my own overcoat from reenacting was in the closet at the time….

The old "Stonewall Brigade" Osprey (1975? long out of print) featured, on the cover and in an interior plate, a Confederate infantryman in full dress uniform: double-breasted frock coat, light blue trousers, facings and kepi (it was a kepi, not a forage cap), lace on collar, cuffs and kepi. But. Instead of grey, the coat was a bright mustard-yellow interpretation of 'butternut'.

Oy vey. And wargamers at that time painted up entire regiments based on this feller. They were going by a color plate in a uniform book, how could it be wrong?

A good black wash covers up many painting sins.
