Does anyone know of a good maker of urban terrain from the InterWar years with a focus on American structures?
The only one I know is TVAG.

Here is a "High end" ready made site for these.

I will see if I can find where I purchased my buildings.

Of the O scale model railway buildings out there, I like the Korber line. They have plenty of 20 – 30's era wharehouses and small factories. Most of the Model Railroad sites have them and they also have there own site, although the line was bought out by another company and they were slow in getting started up again. As I remember prices were around $50 USD a pop, give or take depending on the size, but I've gotten a number of them on Ebay for around $25. USD

Good luck!

I like the Ameri-Town/Buildings Unlimited O scale buildings.

Inexpensive.

You could also use paper buildings by World Works or Microtactix.

Or you could check out Matakishi and make your own

O scale is too big I have found…. I bought a few of those Ameri-Town/Buildings Unlimited O scale buildings, and i really did not like how the fitted in with the 28mm figs that I was using.

I try to use the Old Glory Gagnster buildings ( and with the OGA discount, its a great deal), and I use some of the prototypes from Arnica, Montana. Mr.McGraw said that he will be making them soon for general release. And if you know of McGraws' work, they are great!

I also use some buildings from Antisy/Old Crow. The buildings are in the TraderTown section.

For docks, I just pick up the wooden ones from Michaels Art Supply.

I also use The Virtual Armchair General paper buildings as well as his Mean Sets. Now those are cool sets to use for you interior terrain!

Steve Barber does some resin buildings for gangster games (including a bank and a speakeasy, I think).

But the Steve Barber stuff is outta production. You may be able to find them on e-bay, or through the Steve Barber Yahoo group.

While the SB stuff is HECKA nice ( well done interiors on the Speakeasy, but just a hollow shell for the apartment building, and I have not found someone who will part with the bank, so I have not seen inside of it yet…), they are for TRUE 25's. My 28mm figs look a tad tall, but work great! The only drawback is that there is little interior space for figs bases, but still, they look great!

HO scale model railroading structure models can work, although they're about 20 mm (being HO). However, Design Preservation Models and Woodland Scenics have pdf files and modular kits that can be used to build 25 – 40 mm structures, without doing too much injury to the scale of the windows, etc. Some "scale stretch" will occur, however. One can use the templates to build larger scale buildings out of foam core, using a computer to scan in and enlarge the templates by the correct amount – just make a ratio between the HO scale (20) and the desired scale (28) and enlarge by 28/20ths – then print the enlarged templates and break out the foam core stuff! Works for me and I hope to have something done by the end of summer – oh, for retirement only a year away! :)
