I've added some information to the FAQ, but could use some input as to whether it is clear enough or helpful enough.

TMP link

How long does a hyper-link stay "purple" after I select it? It seems that mine never go back to the original "blue". Consequently, even though I haven't read for a couple of days, all the links that I have read are still purple, even when new items appear and I haven't read them. Sometimes, it is confusing what I have read and what I haven't.

Good question. The length of time that a link stays "purple" depends on the settings in your browser software. It is not something TMP has control over.

It is what it is--can't be much clearer then that.

But I think there's a good feature request hidden in the question. Can we not have some sort of function that shows when a thread has a new message? TMP already puts a cookie on our machine? Can't the cookie contain the message count of the last couple of hundred threads that we've visited. If the current message count for a current thread is different then display it as new else display as old? I can't see how the cost/benifit wouldn't be huge.

Actually I believe it is dependent on how long your browser keeps the websites you've visited in it's history. If you have it set to never clear the browser's history (as a lot of people do) then it will never change back to blue. If you have your browser to only keep the history for say three days and you don't use that link again then it will change back to blue after it's been deleted from the browser history after those three days.
