Does anyone have a colour image of them, or an online link, I want to check the fine details of the uniforms, shoulder flashes etc. I can find pics of them in Black and White and of Modern re-enactors already. Thanks in advance. |

Try the regimental museum. Whilst the website is a bit basic, they do offer email enquiries. There is also a manequin in late WWII uniform that might help. link |

I had looked at that, and again the one bit you can't see clearly on the mannequin is the shoulder flash. |

If you can, get hold of either Histoire and Collections "The British Soldier From D-Day to VE Day", vol. 1 (Jean Bouchery), or have a look at the Osprey book on Gold Beach (D-Day Campaign series). Both contain colour pictures of all the flashes and divisional badges for the Hampshire regiment, including the black on gold variations of shoulder flashes. I have an interest in this regiment as my Grandad was a coxswain who landed the Hampshires in the first wave on Gold Beach. |

Ahhhh I was trying to find an online if I can, I am having some AB ww2 British Painted and they are the regiment I want. I have an interest too, being born in Winchester to start with, and my father was on the Naval op that put the harbour at Arromanches. My Great Uncle served with them in WW1 as well, I have his cap badge somewhere. |

Some links; link link link Now, this will make you smile, I did a bit of digging as I have been to the museum several times. However, it must have been before I got my digital camera, so no photos but I did find my notes of that exact mannequin! The soldier has the Tyne Tees TT divisional insignia on his shoulder, this is red Ts on a black base, sewn onto a khaki patch, and then onto his uniform. Below the TT insignia was a red line/bar in cloth, which is the arm of service strip and is red for infantry (there might be more than one of these, to indicate regimental superiority). The regimental flash on his shoulder is "The Hampshire Regt (small superscript t) in gold on black. You can see an example of this in the Osprey MAA 187 British Battle Insignia (2) 1939 – 45 (plate C for the Hampshire regt officer and plate F for the Tyne Tees divisional emblem. The mannequin was labelled up as a soldier of the 1st Hampshire Regt D-day Arromanches. The Osprey plate C shows an officer of 5th Hampshire Regt, part of 128th (Hampshire) Inf Bde, 46th Inf Div. Hope all of that helps! Malc |

That is excellent, thank you very much. |

One other thing though. The gold on black regimental flash was unofficial. The officially sanctioned flash was white lettering on red, as per many other regiments. Hence you'll see quite a mixture of flashes for this regiment. Check out these re-enactors as well: link |
