Everytime I go shopping with my wife, we end up separating, as I roam the store looking for 'stuff' I can use for wargaming. Last time we were at Walmart, I met her back at the register, holding a welcome mat for fields, a blue bed sheet for naval, some swimming pool toys for converting into WWI balloons, and a bag of aquarium gravel for…well, just in case. We are a young couple, but thank God, she is accepting. Although she pokes fun at me (her favorite line is: "you've reached a new level of nerdom") she has been pretty cool with it. I guess I'm lucky.

Know how it goes. I've had to restrain the impulse to buy something 'nifty', or take home a bit of plastic that 'might be useful' for a kitbash later.. It's getting pretty grim.

Yes you are lucky. There's too many of us (I am lucky like you) who have significant others who are dismissive of our hobby (and I don't mean the joking from your wife, of course). Some are downright nasty from some of the posts I've read here over the years.

The bottom line is, this hobby is part of you. If a wife doesn't like it, there's a part of you she doesn't like. Why someone would want to stay in such a horrible situation is beyond me.

I can't imagine being with someone who isn't supportive of the other's hobbies.

BTW – I don't find anything odd about your store experiences.

If you learn to be supportive of her shoe collection, I predict a long and happy marriage

Ahhh, I have a friend (whom I introduced to wargaming two years agon) His (then girlfriend) said he was "disgusting" playing with his "repulsive" toys. The wargaming figures are still there, she is not…

My girlfriend accepts my hobby even if she doesn´t share my passion for it. But like i told her "where would you rather have me, playing with toys with my geekfriends one tuesday evening a week or out drinking beer with "da boyz" on saturday evening at some nightclub"?

After that there is no problem wargaming…

Wargames Mom,
Funny you should mention the shoe collection. In our bedroom is a shelving unit with over 50 shoes in it, 4 under-the-bed boxes filled with shoes, and two walls of the room are lined with more shoes. My wife has well over a hundred pairs of shoes. Everytime she comes home with a new pair, I die a little inside. And any time I say something, she mentions that the attic is full of wargaming stuff. But I don't see the connection.

Gert,
Baxter & I have a conversion rate these building were x many pairs of shoes, or these figures were one pair of earrings.

Seems to work for us

Haha- Thanks. I'll let her know about the conversion rate.
