Are there any lists of VSF or Steampunk technology names?
(Names for scientific inventions or weapons?)

Or some suggestions for coming up with names?

Here are a few names that I found so far:
Infinity Beam Projector
Wave Disrupter Gun
Sub-Atomic Disintegrator Pistol
Contrapulatronic Dingus
Parallel Phase Inverter
Ingenious Engines & Clockwork Enigmas
Winans Steam Gun
Electrolux Death Ray
Infallible Aether Oscillator
Doctor Hellsing's Apparatical Mechanical Patent Infra-Revolver

The word "ray" is probably more evocative of a VSF setting than the word "beam"

And although the Victorians new the word "Atom", "Sub-Atomic" sounds more fifties sci-fi than Victorian.

How about the good old Orgone Accumulator? In truth, a mid-twentieth century concept, but fits right in with all that bad Victorian science.

And don't forget to us the word Aetheric in there.

I looked at the Seventh Sanctum site, but the names that were generated, just don't sound at all right.

Remember – 'Electrolux' is actually a registered brand/trademark and stuff is still sold under that brand in some countries. A lot of good names are already taken – I think there was a Winans – or was it Winant – who made some sort of wonder weapon around the time of the USA/CSA kerfuffle.

Tesla (radio/electronics, Brennan (mechanical & gyroscopic) & Erickson(sp)(mechanical/steal) were general purpose inventors and whose real inventions & claims have inspired a lot of VSF stuff. Erickson was the only one to leave us with an ongoing corporate entity tho'.

A couple of items that appear in my games are:

Monocular Target Magnifier (telescopic sight)

Flammable Solution Discharger (flame thrower)

Once you've decided what the contraption does and how its powered the name usally writes itself.

I'm not trying to publish anything, just to name some items for my VSF game, so I don't think Electrolux will care too much.
