I am looking to buy some D1s in 20mm, if anyone knows of a manufacturer who makes a model of this vehicle in 20mm?

(There seems to be a very nice one available at the moment from one manufacturer, sadly in 28mm…)

Are you looking for the Renault Char D1 circa 1929 or 1933? Or is there a typo and you are actually looking for a Char D2? I don't know of one for the first, but BP Cast carries the second and is available via RLBPS.

I suspect he wants the Char D1, as it was involved in the French Campaign of 1940 (67 BCC), and also in Tunisia fighting against the DAK in 1943.

The PT Dockyard makes them in 15mm. I don't know of anyone that makes them in 20mm.

no company has ever made a D1 in 20mm , cromwell models had ( have ) a D2 .

The nice 28mm one you mentioned must be from Chieftain Models.

It's also available in 1/300th sclae or 15mm but alas AFAIK not in 20.

Thank you for the help…

I noticed you can get D2s from a number of places, SHQ make one besides the ones by Cromwell and BP.

It's a shame that there isn't any D1 in 20mm, the 28mm one by Cheiftain looks really good.

Perhaps I will try and make a D1 myself.

Wow, I could not even find a kit in 1:72 scale plastic. That's a hard find.

I can send you the plans if you like.
Leland probably has them as well, but his will show every bolt, rivet and screwhead :-)

Chieftain,

That would be great!

Do you mind if I ask for another favour at the same time? Could you send me the plans for the French armoured half track that you also have in your range? That also looks like another interesting vehicle.

The models available in your ranges, besides the fact that they are very reasonably priced, made me think about buying some 28mm WW2… perhaps Japanese though as I already have lots of 20mm for other theatres.

I forgot, my email address in philonken@aol.com

Thanks!

A D1 in 1/72nd. I thought one had been made. They are expensive, but very nice kits when built.
I'll still sort out the plans for you

BEF Miniatures14 May 2008 4:36 p.m. PST

You missed the Propaganda Company one, Leland.
Go to the bottom of the class for knowledge on available French vehicles in widdly scale.
Coconuts, if Leland has sent you the plans already, then I'll leave your mailbox alone. He has probably sent you everything including the kitchen sink.

Coconuts14 May 2008 5:31 p.m. PST

Chieftain,

I do now have a mailbox full of interesting plans, many thanks Leland!

The 1:72 D1 in the link you kindly posted looks like a nice model (it even has interior) but it is quite expensive, nearly as much as the 28mm one in your range. It might be too nice for wargames…

So I might still attempt to scratch build. One thing I have been thinking about, making scale wheels and other small bits in quantity is tiresome, and also, for gaming, I am going to need 2 or 3 at least of each vehicle and scratch building so many is not very practical. Is it possible to buy small scale metal or resin casting kits, a bit like Prince August, but where it is possible to make you own moulds too? This would be really useful for scratch building wargames models, and you could just make one, and cast others.

Another thing I have been thinking about, can anyone recommend good books on French tanks, armoured cars and half tracks? I have seen a book in the Livre Chez Vous catalogue called '1940: L'Arme Blindee dans la Tourmente', is this worth buying?
