Kirby's Campaigns in India During the SYW mentions that some French ship Marines were left behind by the defeated navy.

In the Wandiwash, Order of Battle for the French it lists 300 Marines.

In Osprey Loius XV's Army (5) Colonial and Naval Troops
Plate H #3Captaine d'armes, Compagnes franches de la Marine (ship Marines) c. 1740
He is wearing shoes and no gaiters, at first I thought maybe because he's an officer, but then thought why would they need gaiters at sea. There is also on the same plate a (fusilier) galley marine with no gaiters.

So would the marines that were left behind: have gotten gaiters from the land forces ?

Would ships marines have had bayonets ?

Now I am not a real stickler on exactness of my armies but would at least give them a good / plausible historic flair.

So does anyone manufacture a figure without gaiters that I could use for a small ships marine force ?

If no one manufactures such a figure.
I was considering using Front Rank Light Infantry Troops, they have gaiters, don't have a bayonet, coats are shorter but may give them that left behind lacking supplies type feel. Plus there would possibly be no Standard or drummer.

Again I'd like input from the SYW crowd. ( I am just an arm chair general considering what may go into my forces.)

Thanks again in advance.

They would have had bayonets & gaiters but may not have worn the gaiters at sea.I would use regular French infantry.

They had all of the same equipment as the French regular troops – but didn't wear most of their kit while on ship as gaiters weren't necessary. Bayonets were standard issue – so yes they had them. As to whether or not many of the marines brought their gaiters with them – I would expect that they did bring them as they were also to do any landing party raids and the like as well.

Thank You, very much. I overthink things.
