Who carries those in the US? Is it more of a craft store thing (JoAnns, Michaels) or a train/model store thing?

A very cursory google brought up these, among others:

Since it appears to be a Casein-based paint I would think craft, or more specifically art supply, stores would be the place to look.

They always seemed too bright to me. I don't use them.

So nobody has seen them in the shops then eh?

I hate to mail order …

utrechtart.com have at least some of them (but it looks like they may only carry the white and black). There's a store finder on their website.

I've never seen them in stores in the US, only mail order. Dick Blick's carries the Shiva casein range but I've only seen them in the Chicago loop store.

There is a store in Evanston, IL called Tom Thumb Hobby Shop that used to carry them. I don't know if they still do or not. This is also a good source for Testors paints and Dullcoat.

Iused to use them for horses followed by painting (darker) oil paint over the top, waiting a few hours, and dragging a cloth across the surface of the horse to remove oil in raised areas. That works very well.
