I have been working on the Battle of Barnet 1471 for the wWars of the Roses and I found some good resources. I know that WotR armies/ battles are a hot topiuc in here so I thought I would start a topic to share resources for future or current person using these armies. Please feel free to add to my small list: 15mm Miniatures: Donnington Essex (Decent, but static poses) Peter Pig (The Best) Feudal Castings (Nice) Mirliton (from their Swiss/ Burgundian Range, VERY Good) Museum Minis (small selection) Black Hat (Nice) Mini Figs (not my bag) Books: 4x Books from "Freezywater Publications" on Heraldry/ Livery Badges, colors, etc
The same publishers make WotR 15mm Flag sheets and Scenario Books (including Barnet) "British Battles" by Ken Guest The Osprey Book on "Tewkesbury" actually also covers Barnet "The Wars of the Roses" by Charles Ross Wargame Rules specific to the WotR: "Medieval Warfare" (my favorite) by Terry Gore has both generic WotR army lists and a Wotr Scenario Book (sagapublishing.homestead.com/products.html) "Bloody Barons" by Peter Pig for his glorious minis. "Fields of Glory" from Slitherine Press/ Osprey Books Helpful Web Resources: Lance and Longbow Society link Web page from the city of Barnet about the Battle: link TMP topics about WotR: theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=142682 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=142650 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=142549 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=136467 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=134565 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=134564 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=133875 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=133728 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=133105 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=133012 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=132914 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=132275 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=131969 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=126744 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=124154 theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=119160 Not all the WotR posts, but a good sample. |

"Web page from the city of Barnet about the Battle:" Barnet would indeed be flattered to be considered a city! There are only two cities in London, the City of London and the City of Westminster. Barnet is only a town. Quoting from that link: "They halted at Gladsmuir Heath, (now known as Hadley common), near the hamlet of Monken Hadley, just north of Barnet." Um
there is much dispute about the location of Gladsmuir (aka Gladsmore) Heath. One thing is pretty certain though, it is NOT Hadley Common. Take a look at this web site for a different interpretation of the battle and its location: link |

"Uesugi, thanks for not using the acronym, "WotR"." Why? What's wrong with it? |

Thanks for the link on the battle field, Mike. I've thought about visiting there, as I often stay with friends in the area. The use of the term "city" is quite casual here in the US, where we have no traditional form of recognition beyond political convention. I live near the city of Flint, and I assure you, it is not the seat of a bishop. Any metro area above a village can incorporate as a city. I can add "The Military Campaigns of the War of the Roses, by Philip Haigh. Great resource for wargamers. |

""Uesugi, thanks for not using the acronym, "WotR"." Why? What's wrong with it?" It's confusing: and stands for War of the Ring. (I'm just funnin' ya) |

"I can add "The Military Campaigns of the War of the Roses, by Philip Haigh. Great resource for wargamers." Agreed, although be careful of some of the maps – for example, he puts Harpenden between St Albans and Hatfield in the map of the approach marches to 1st Albans on p.9 (Compare with the OS map at streetmap.co.uk ). Another good book on Barnet is the one by Patrick McGill published by Freezywater Publications. "It's confusing: and stands for War of the Ring. (I'm just funnin' ya)" OK. Have you anything constructive to say on this topic? |

"You could also try 'The Battlefields of England', by Alfred Burne." Burne puts Barnet on what I refer to as the "traditional" (Monken Hadley) site. Most modern researchers (e.g. McGill, Warren, Foard) place the actual battlefield further north. |
