Good day to you all, I'm looking for a nice set of 28mm skirmish rules for the American War of Independence. I'm painting up a couple of British Centre Companies, some mounted officers as well as artillery and would like the option to use them after they're complete. Thanks in advance for the feedback. |

I have used unmodified "The Sword and the Flame" with excellent results. I rate British as "British", Continentals or Loyalist regulars as "Egyptian", militia as Boers, and Indians as either Pathans, Zulus or Dervish, depending on the scenario. This looks like the scale of play you are aiming at. You can add +1 modifiers for grenadiers or Highlanders as you wish. I am going to play with "This Very Ground", too. Both look like they would work for a Lexington Concord game, which is what I am now painting for. |

Sharp Practice was just released this weekend for large skirmishes in the black powder era. 30 to 120 figures a side is what it's aimed at. |

Brother vs Brother has modifications for the American Revolution. This is an easy to learn set of rules. |

The two I would recommend are Brother Vs Brother and Black Powder Battles by Two hour wargames. As Der Alt Fritz say B vs B has mods for the AWI. BPB has lists included in them for AWI Napoleonics and more. Cheers GeorgeD |

You might also consider G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T They are pretty generic and you can build in whatever biases you have toward the period. |

Sharp Practice from Two Fat Lardies covers the F&I as well as the AWI and right through until the Indian Mutiny, released yesterday, good fun. I was a playtester, and much fun was had in all the games. |

The Perfect Captain's "John Bull & Patriots" that according to their website; is "A Free set of miniatures rules for the War of 1812 and American Revolution, representing company level actions of roughly 150-800 men per side, provided with full colour graphics." I have played it several times and it gives a good game with results that feel right for the period. Here is the website; link |

Anything OFM says on this subject must be seriously considered. Does anyone know of a bigger fan with more gaming experience in this period, than he? |

I am planning on using "This Very Ground" but there might be new rules by the time I have everything painted. |

I am a fan of This Very Ground and Black Powder Battles. Mayhaem:Muskets and Mohawks is available free from Two Hour Wargams and makes a nice preview of Black Powder Battles |

How about 'Fire and Steel'? Also liked RSM's 'Wilderness War' (I think!) for the SYW -easily converted. |
