Very cool! I especially liked "Them" (never thought of that).

Similar setup to my permanent MI table:

Where did they get that water?

Captain Gideon12 May 2008 8:01 a.m. PST

What Ants did you use for THEM?

Where did you get the military vehicles from?

What type of buildings are these?

Sorry I forgot that you didn't set this up so forgive my mistake.

This is outstanding. Thanks for the post. The "THEM" is a very good idea. I am going to use this one myself. It never occured to me to use ants. I like the swarm rules from GMR II. I like the use of onconventional Kaiju.

I also use Cthulhu, and the Staypuft Masrmellow Man. )Only with my large scale games.) I usually use gashapons like Smokeyroan.

Captain Gideon, the buildings are from GW's old Space Marine Epic games

The vehicles look like GHQ but could not be certain.

Smokey Roan12 May 2008 9:14 a.m. PST

Dang, Thieses, where did you get the Stay Puft figure?

BTW, Scale Creeps makes geat looking giant ants.

jpattern212 May 2008 9:31 a.m. PST

The masers might be the ones available through Clawmark Toys: link

Note that they spell it "mazer".

The Epic Gamer12 May 2008 10:13 a.m. PST

The Marshmallow man in Thieses post is the NECA action figure. It's 15 inches tall.

I've been looking for a 2-3" Stay Puft Marshmallow man forever. Closest I've seen is the old pencil sharpener toy out of a Happy Meal. Unfortunately, it's not really detailed though.

GMR is good fun. I've picked up some Bakugan collectible figures lately to use. What does everyone else use?

Smokey Roan12 May 2008 10:33 a.m. PST

Bandai Age of destruction figures (3" tall) since my terrain is 6mm

Those are possibly Halloween plastic ants. I have a load of them and they would fit in with the Godzilla Monsters set from K-Bee toys. I have these rules and the buildings. Hmmmmmm…………….

Thanks,

John

Smokey, The Epic Gamer is partially correct. :)

"The Marshmallow man in Thieses post is the NECA action figure. It's 15 inches tall"

My StayPuft Marshmellow Man is from NECA, but it is the 7" bobble head/Headknocker figure. The NECA action figure is very cool, but it is massive. In some of my GMR games I use my 8" Bandai Kaiju figures. I do this only occasionally, with smaller numbers of figures, because the scale is huge. Nine out of ten games I use my Gashapons because they are easier to transport. Also I use the paper print out buildings that you linked in an earlier post.

Very Cool!

Thieses12 May 2008 12:04 p.m. PST

Some of the other minis that I use that are 3-4 inch size not already shown are from Konami.

Gamera: Konami gashapon collector figures. Konami made 3 series of Gamera figures that are VERY detailed and reasonable. The pics do not do these fugures justice.

Konami also made a "vintage" set of Gamers figures which are done in what I will call updated style. Meaning instead of being true to the old cheesy designs, Konami made new inspired-sculpts based on the old designs. Take a look.

Oh-Boy did you Ev-errr give me some ideas for my Monster Island miniatures.

I've got both editions of GMR but have only read over the rules. I haven't played them yet, but like the ideas of special manuvers available only if you have certain features. Also like the was the army is handled by dice rolls if someone doesn't want to play the military. One more thing… having the kids that play the game only rolling 1d10 (opposed to the 3d6 in MI) mades it easier on the adding part.

I'm really going to have to sit down and PLAY the game.

Cool pictures eveyone.

Oh-yea… one more thing… For the players out there that have played both the 1st & 2nd editions… Which one do you like the bast and why?

Warrenss212 May 2008 1:43 p.m. PST

err… "bast" really = "best".

And a big THANKS for the Clawmark Toy's link!!!!!
Thay are going to be getting some of my money real soon.

Captain Gideon12 May 2008 1:52 p.m. PST

There's another company called Iwakura which makes a line of Godzilla & Friends figures.

These figures are more of a display figure but they are similar in size to the Capsule/Gashapon figures.

They also make certain figures that the capsule toys don't cover, for example Kumonga/Spiega the way it looks in Son of Godzilla i have it and it looks great.

There's also very good figures of Baragon,Gigan and Gorosaurus.

For myself i have well over 100 capsule type Godzilla figures, which includes Gamera and Ultraman figures as well.

I did have one question for people who play GMR and Monster Island and that is does anyone have stats for Ultraman monsters?

Since i have a decent collection of Ultraman monsters and these are from the first Ultraman and Ultra Seven series.

Any help would be grateful.

Thanks
Captain Gideon

Thieses12 May 2008 2:19 p.m. PST

Captian Gideon, I have a ton of the Iwakura figures. Did you pick up any of the Kong/Mecha Kong figures? They were crazy expensive on Ebay. I also wanted the Gargantuas that they made, buy the cost was nuts.

Warrenss212 May 2008 2:20 p.m. PST

They have a Giant Mecha type monter in MI… called Voltrus I believe.

I'm sure Ultraman and his crew could be made easily. Both rule set make making monsters a breeze.

Captain Gideon12 May 2008 2:48 p.m. PST

Sorry Thieses I couldn't afford the Kong figures though i wish i could've done so.

The Gargantuas would've been nice too but again i couldn't get them, although i did see the complete set which includes the Gargantuas plus a flying MechaGodzilla but they wanted over $250.00 USD for the complete set and i just didn't have the money for that.

Do you have any extra Iwakura figures that you might want to sell?

Thanks
Captain Gideon

I posted a link to this thread over on the GMR yahoo group, so maybe Jeff Zorn (the guy who did the report) will be over to answer those.

Jeff Zorn writes:

Glad my report has inspired some folks. GMR is a great set of rules for doing these kind of battles. The main thing is to gently push the players to move quickly by planing what to do in advance and encouraging them to go with their first "Giant Monster" instinct, rather than over analyze things.

I tend to like to run scenarios with several monsters/vehicles per side rather than straight up brawls. I did an earlier game with the flying saucers (Babylon 5 figs), Godzilla universe space monsters (Gigan and Ghidorah), and allied monsters from beneath the sea (Megalon and Manda) vs. Earth Defence Forces (various of the vehicles from Godzilla movies) supported by Mecha Godzilla, Mecha King Ghidorah and some others. Earth is now a colony of some space empire. Didn't get any pics of that one.

"Them" are picnic ants I got from Amazon.com. 144 of them for $1.99.

The buildings are from GW 2nd ed. Epic Space Marines. A real, real pity that GW never say fit to make those available separately.

The tanks and so on are GHQ

The Mazer Cannon is from the Baragon Hyper Grade figure. Available from Clawmark but getting hard to find.

The water is a made from a piece of fabric that I picked up either at Jo Ann Fabrics or Walmart about 4 years ago.

I have both 1st and 2nd ed. of GMR. I'm kind of old fashioned and like to have a printed bound rule book. 2nd ed. is only available as a download. Also, I've got stats for ca. 30+ Kaiju and vehicles and don't want to have to think about converting them all to 2nd ed.

If you've got the rules and figs you owe it to yourself and your friends to try it out. Just a notch above beer and pretzels.

Thieses13 May 2008 6:10 a.m. PST

Captian Gideon, I do have extra Iwakura figures for Trade/sell. I also have literally hundreds of Gashapons from every type of Kaiju. Here is my work email.

How do the military work in this game? I assume that they aren't run by a player but by the game system.

Captain Gideon13 May 2008 8:43 a.m. PST

Thieses I just sent you an email with regards to your Iwakura figures.

The Epic Gamer13 May 2008 12:11 p.m. PST

Thieses and Captain Gideon, where do you normally buy the Gamera: Konami, Iwakura and other gashapons? Are there any good sites out there with pictures of what's available?

Kaptain Kobold13 May 2008 12:12 p.m. PST

"where do you normally buy the Gamera: Konami, Iwakura and other gashapons? "

I just trawl eBay on a regular basis; that's where I've got my collection from.

Captain Gideon13 May 2008 2:19 p.m. PST

For myself I found most of my collection on eBay but i found most of the Iwakura figures from a place called Kimono my House.

It's located in Emeryville Calif if you do a search you should find it,i also found some of my Godzilla and Gamera figures there as well.

But i think the best place right now has to be eBay where sometimes you can get many different Gashapon figures as well as Iwakura figures as well.

Captain Gideon

Thieses14 May 2008 11:32 a.m. PST

I bought the vast majority of my Gashapons and Iwakura figures from several sources. Ebay,Chibigojitoys.com, Clawmark toys.com, and a store in Milwaukee that is no longer open called the Monster shop.

There are good pics at most sites but here are some more in no particular order.
