I've got an itch, a scratch, a litle niggling thing that says "prehistoric miniatures game", after doing a bit of prehistoric roleplaying. I can come up with my own rules, but I'm curious to know what rules folks are using for their games. Is there a "classic' or popular set of rules for caveman & dinosaur bashing? |

Matthew Hartley's Tusk (from Irregular) was one of the first sets of prehistoric hunting rules, and is still both enjoyable and hugely adaptable (the original book covers cavemen and The Lost World, but later supplements adapted it for The Empire Strikes Back, King Kong and Doctor Who among others). |

I understand Steve Barber's "Prehistoric Settlement" is very popular – I've been thinking of buying it myself. It also has the advantage of being a one-stop shop for all the 25mm miniatures you need (as I understand is also the case for Irregular's Tusk, but with 6mm figures). |

Jeff Valent's Sticks and Stones is a set I have and hope to play. |

Matakishi had Prehistoric Settlement as one of his projects: There were lots of nice photos on his site, but can't remember whether there was any commentary. Irregular also does Tusk packs in 15mm (and possibly 20mm) – or just use it with whatever figures you have. |

I play Tusk, but I play it in 28mm (just convert a "base" of figures into one figure.) |

My Ice Age rules collection includes: Tusk (Irregular) Og (Wingnut) Tooth & Claw (updated Mammalian Mayhem)(Chris Peers) Prehistoric Settlement (Steve Barber) Sticks and Stones (Jeff Valent) Breakfastime of Man (Howard Whitehouse) Tribes (Steve Jackson) Sticks and Stones (Metagaming) Gurps Ice Age (Steve Jackson) Valley of the Mammoths (boardgame) I ended up writing my own (three different versions, all continually under revision
) I got started with Prehistoric Settlement and bought enough for 8 players (!), ran one game and found players wanted to kill beasts and each other rather than hunt, gather and build. Okay for a computer game, but not for bloodthirsty gamers. I'm currently reading Tooth & Claw, mainly for the animal stats and reaction tables. (Also a feature of the Tusk rules.) Haven't seen Jeff Valent's Sticks and Stones yet. |

Bob, when they're released, you'll see a big order from me. Very nice! I'm still using the old Metagaming Sticks and Stones microgame, converted to miniatures. |

I've purchased a 4 player setup for Prehistoric Settlement. Yes, it is more of a resource game than fighting depending on your players. It can be expanded and modified to suit your needs. Most have already been mentioned, but there is Cave Wars. It is a freebie on the Cave Wars yahoo group. It looks pretty complete and I believe is based on GW's Mordheim rules. Lots of room for advancement and quests. Also, check out Prehistoric Adventures, also on the Cave Wars yahoo group. It is more of a map-based adventure, but it has neat concepts. |

Resource gathering? Thats for that nancy-tribe over the hill:). Real cavemen let someone else do it and then fight them for it. Thanks everyone, I'll check out some of these suggestions. |
