I'm looking for some figures for the war in Angola in the 1980s in 6mm. I'm after some figures for Cubans, SWAPO, UNITA, FALPA figures and SADF. I'd like to use the very nice GHQ figures and I was thinking of using a mix of Soviets, Bushwarriors and Vietnam NVA for the Cubans, SWAPO and FALPA figures witha bit of filing to create "Castro" style caps. Does anyone know what the UNITA figures would be wearing and what they were armed with? From what I've read they had a mix of Soviet and western equipment (eg AK47s and Stinger AAGMs). For the SADF would the GHQ Israeli figures be too modern? Otherwise I'm open to suggestions from other manufacturers. Also has anyone seen the Scotia South African figures and what are they like? Pictures would be even better

Hi Kieran, Sounds cool! I have some books to send you
E-mail me off-baord. I'm never going to use them
we can chat. My references on UNITA probably have that infor for you. Osprey. I don't have pictures of the Scotia SAF, but they looked like other Scotia 6mm modern figures. See Bob Mackenzie's site for a useful infantry review. I'll chat with you later! Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. 6mm-minis.blogspot.com |

In 6mm I have been using a mix of GHQ figures. For Cubans I used the Bush war pack and some WWII Africa Korps pack mixed in (this was mostly before Bush war pack came out). For SWAPO and FALPA I used a mix of bush warriors pack and WWII British in digger hats with some conversion work on the guns. UNITA has been a problem, like you unsure what to use. Also from what I have been able to put together it seems the South Africans did wear bush hats in battle and this causes a real problem. I hoped when the bush war pack came out it would include a modern armed figure in bush hat but this is not the case. Maybe GHQ will produce a modern South African infntry pack one day. For the time being nothing really fits. I did try to use some WWII British in digger hats but the guns are all wrong. I was further not up to gluing the heads on modern British infantry but I guess this would work. Please post some pictures when you get some stuff painted. |
