as the subject board states really. Who are the firms that do 10mm Ww1 and whats your opinion of them? |
| Lentulus | 11 May 2008 7:21 a.m. PST |
Pendraken -- I have some of their French, Russian and British and they are all quite nice. |
| morrigan | 11 May 2008 7:22 a.m. PST |
I only have Pendraken and like them very much. The pictures of Magister Militum's figures look very good too. GFI is going to release a line as well. |
McKinstry | 11 May 2008 8:03 a.m. PST |
I've seen the Pendraken WW1 and they are quite nice. I haven't seen any Magister Militum but I mix 10mm Gauls by both firms and have been very pleased. |
| Dave Crowell | 11 May 2008 8:27 a.m. PST |
Irreular offer a few, mostly Germans. I have not seen these in person, but the website promises more to come. |
| ciaphas | 11 May 2008 8:36 a.m. PST |
pendraken, lots of light horse and turks for the palestine, look good. jon |
| corvettek225 | 11 May 2008 8:48 a.m. PST |
Pendraken's are fantastic! I wish the standard infantry had a few more poses but if you mix them all in, there is plenty to go around. Here is a picture of my Germans painted as proxy Austrians: link Dave |
| Lentulus | 11 May 2008 9:17 a.m. PST |
corvettek225, that is some amazing detail work – I had a look through all your 10s. I can't come close. |
| Stosstruppen | 11 May 2008 10:10 a.m. PST |
I just ordered a few Pendraken to check them out, can't wait to see them. I did not know GFI was doing them as well. The irregular fifures on the website look good but only Germans as stated above. Pendraken does have a complete line. |

Love the painting corvettek225 Please excuse my ignorence. Who is GFI? |
| Lentulus | 11 May 2008 11:44 a.m. PST |
GFI is the US makers of Minifigs |

Thanks for the kind comments. I have to say that the minis lend themselves well to my painting style. They have excellent relief. The details are impossible to see while still in their natural state and must be primed to appreciate. I prime black but don't let any of it show through on a finished figure. Darker shades of the top colours allow for a much "brighter" finished product. The Austrians, Italians and French are all excellent as well! I am interested in seeing Peter Pig's 15mm's in person but I feel that 10mm is a much better scale when troops are expected to be dense. The recommended Flames of War basing principles are a perfect example of too large a figure (and qty.) on too small a base. I know that in WWII troops still tended to "bunch up" but your average army was already teaching "spread out!" for survival. Dave |

Hi Dave, Excellent work !!!! Would you have a few others (other Germans, French, etc
) to post, even unpainted or simply primed ? Pictures are hard to come by through manucturers ressource, and one can wonder why, when quality is so good. BTW, agree with your comments on 'bunching up' <g> I intend to base my future 10mm minis per 5 on a medium FOW base. For 15mm, I feel three or four minis are fine for a medium sized FOW bases. JMO though, Marc |

Magister Militum is starting to build a new range of troops. We should see some new stuff later this summer. |
| CooperSteveOnTheLaptop | 11 May 2008 2:36 p.m. PST |
I have the IRREGULAR Germans. Overall I love them. They paint up well (The infantry are a doddle) Proportions are really nice, as opposed to the big heads of MAGISTER & PENDRAKEN. Rifles are robust unlike PENDRAKEN armies I've seen where you end up with a mass of bendy wavy weapons. The Magister range is good for poses and overall cuteness but the heads are massive. Were it not for this I would have gone with them. (I want Belgians) Drawbacks with IRREGULAR: Only one army so far, Early War German. Scant poses. 1 officer fig. , 1 Jager fig. (standing firing – grr
would look good in trenches but I want Summer 1914) 2 infantry (advancing, the slightly different step looks good) too limited crew figures for the HMG and 7.7 gun. Some 'step' on some of the castings. No higher command. No Jager HMG (tho' its easy to convert them)
So I'd like to see more Germans and some opposition! |

When I ordered these they they didn't sound like additions were being rushed out urgently- Russians were mentioned. I voted for Serbs or Belgians. |

Definitely check out GFI! They are duplicating in 10mm scale everything that was available in the way of vehicles, field artillery, etc, as well as troops, in the old MiniFig 15mm line. Contact Tom Dye by E-mail at DYE4MINIS@aol.com and ask where they are in this project. These are probably the figures best worth waiting for! TVAG |

Marc, I will plan on getting up some more photos by next weekend or so. (Perhaps some Italians and Austrians in hats) I will pass on the info when I do. Steve, do not fear the bendy-wavy weapons with the WWI figs. I can not speak of their other eras but the WWI weapons have all been in great shape. I would say that about 1 in 100 need straightening out. I am not necessarily stuck with one manufacturer for reasons of more pose variety, the most important compatibility test for me would then have to be detail relief. How prominent is the detail on the Irregular? I am looking forward to Tom's releases as well. I sure wish someone (Pendraken or other maker) would come out with some add on's like Irish regulars, armed civilians for IWI or German navy, armed civilians for German revolution. There are so many spillover conflict during the teens and twentys to choose from. I see Pendraken has come out with RCW reds so maybe my dreams will materialize??!! :-) Dave |
| Lentulus | 11 May 2008 4:44 p.m. PST |
"armed civilians for IWI" You could probably use the same figures for everything from 1916 Irish to 1941 Soviet Worker's militia with not much more variety than a few alternative sub-machineguns. |
| corvettek225 | 11 May 2008 5:16 p.m. PST |
I forgot to post this earlier. I can't claim the credit for the nice work but here is some British and German Pendraken figs: link I like his technique. It seems to work great in quick time! Dave |
| corvettek225 | 11 May 2008 5:19 p.m. PST |
Lentulus, Yes, your point is valid. I kind of had in mind the bulk of the civilian figures being in some sort of long coat and wearing either a fedora style hats or a cap proper. Maybe, ammunition bandoleers would be an authentic touch. Dave |
| Lentulus | 12 May 2008 4:26 a.m. PST |
Dave, I'd by them. They's make fine partisans too. 50:50 Hats and caps. |
| marcpa | 12 May 2008 10:48 a.m. PST |
Dave, Thx for the update :-) Pendraken LW Brits look really great too ! I will wait for GFI's future 10mm WW1 offerings to compare with Pendraken's, but the latter are definitely high on my wish list. A dream comes true would be to have two mixable ranges with both of these, for more variety ! Marc |

Here is a direct link to the article on what we are doing with N scale WWI. It includes pictures. link We have over 12 more WWI items awaiting low temp mold rubber for production master making since this article was written. We will relase this range once we get the infantry. As with WWII and moderns, look for us to be regularly adding to the range. Thanks for looking! Best, Tom Dye GFI |

Tom, Hurry up and produce them and I will hurry up and buy them! :-) Dave |
