I am putting together some more AT gun crew for my Germans and have realised I haven't a clue what one of them is holding. On figure seems to have a large oval cannister, about 1 metre long and perhaps 30 cm wide it is being held as if it was a huge cartridge case or something. I really have no idea what it is supposed to be.

Anyone?

It sounds like a shell to me, or possibly just a shell case. I don't think much ammo was 2 part for German AT guns though.

Rangefinder?

I think i know what your talking about. i got a kit of a german AA halftrack from hasgiwa. One of the crew had this long tube looking piece which he was apparently supposed to hold in front of his face. Couldn't figure out what it was but found a picture in some bigger scale german gun sets of an almost exact figure.

If what your talking about is shaped like a long canister; being flat on both ends and round all the way around, then i suppose its gun level or sorts or a range finder. I'd say it has something to do with siting the gun.

I assumed it was packaging with ammo inside it.

I took a couple and trimmed the oval doodad out and modified the legs so they could crew my PzJgr 1s.

I don't think it is a rangefinder, they tend to be round and about 10cm (in scale) in diameter. This is much bigger than that

Here are some rather pants photos of him. I have realised the limitations of the camera on my phone :(

Hi,

From the pic it looks to be a packing case for the ammo. That's what I use em as

Hope this helps, Dave

Yes, that isn't a rangefinder. Ammo case.

It's a canned ham, James. grin

Definitely a 75mm PaK 40 ammo case. The rounds were packed in those metal cases, in 2's or 3's I believe. Paint them dunklegelb, just like the gun.
