Hi,

Did any regiments of cheveau-leger lanciers serve in the peninsular wars? I know the polish guard lancers were with Lepic's brigade, but I am interested in non-guard lancers.

Thanks,

John

The Lancer of Berg were in the Penninsula …… I do not think they were part of the French Guard at the time …. They had a Green and Pink uniform

Were the Cleve-Berg Chevauxleger ever part of the "Garde"?
There field service dress was in "iron-gray" not green & crimson (jR Elting)

None, unless you count the vistula legion lancers that later became the 7th & 8th light horse lancers.

Another option beside the Berg chevau-leger would be the lancier-gendarmes.

The six French lancer regiments were formed in 1811 by converting six dragoon regiments into lancers. The cadres of the six dragoon regiments were withdrawn from Spain, the troops being divided among the dragoon regiments remaining in Spain. The six French lancer regiments never served in Spain but in Russia, Saxony in 1813 and France in 1814.

Sincerely,
Kevin

The Chevaux-Legers de Berg were attached to the Young Guard division, deployed in the 5th Military Government (Burgos) from January 1810 to March 1812. There were 3 squadrons, with (in February 1811) 641 effectives, deployed in Burgos itself, except 100 lancers that were attached to a Mobile Column in Valladolid.

Also, several squadrons of the Gendarmerie had lances.
