I'm painting a unit of Russian Hussars (OG unfortunately-they're a pretty rough miniature) and am a little stumped on how to best paint the triangular "vandyck ticking" on the shabaraque. I know to paint light then dark but am shying away from a wash at this point due to the muting of the colors (yellow-dark blue). Any help would be appreciated. I'm ready to just paint the yellow and blue then put a coat of Minwax stain on it to see if it will bring out the triangluar ticking. Thanks! |

Ok, I am finnally glad this came up. This to me is the most tendious of all Russian Nap. figures. Partly because you want the same number of triangles on each side. This is what I do. I subdivide the side of the saddle cloth with little tick marks. I then, carefully as possible brush up a stroke back and forth in a zig-zag pattern. Then I go and paint over the ticking with the saddle cloth colour, which is usually darker anyway, so it covers up the ticking well. This in turn "shapes" the triangles. I use this technique when I do the lace around the kiwer. I carefully apply the lace colour, then go around and finish it by outlining the ouside with black,
shako colour. Hope this helps, ilodic. |

Thanks
I appreciate the "pearl o' wisdom" This is a major pain in the gluteous to paint. I'm only doing 12 of the bastardos thankfully. I've got another 36 but don't know if they'll get done (all 25mm)in this lifetime. :) Thanks again |
