I know there is very little information out there on SYW French in India. I've looked around and purchase what was basicly available.

I've bought some 1st Corp French Sepoys. There is no command for them available.
Here's what I'm thinking and want input from those more knowledgable of the SYW period.
I am going to use poetic license to create these units but would like it to at least seem that they were feasible.

I was considering putting a French command unit in with the Sepoys.

Now I know the French Irish Regt Lally was in India and 69th Regt Lorraine.
Would / Could the command of the Sepoys be from these Regts. or more likely from troops of Compagnes des Indies?

Also would the command consist of just an officer and possibly a Sgt or two ?

Would a drummer be appropriate ?

Now I was considering making up my own flag for the Sepoys. So wouldn't think a regular French Standard bearer would be used as a standard bearer.
But if Compagnes des Indies troops are used as command, one of their men may hold a Sepoy flag.

The best would be to find an appropriate figure to represent a Sepoy Standard Bearer, but I don't know of one to go with 1st Corps Sepoys.

I had also considered a command from Bussy's army but didn't see figures that would be appropriate.

So any learned SYW players out there have suggestions, opinions etc.

Thanks for the input.

In the 1780s the French sepoy regiments were attached to French regiments & carried the same colors but I don't know about earlier. I would use irregular native command types from one of the Foundry ranges-Sikh Wars or Mutiny with a French officer in tricorne.

Also I seem to remember the Terry Wise book on flags showing a sepoy color that was a standard French design but had a snake superimposed in the left upper canton so if you can find a copy of that it may give you some ideas.

Hi, I purchased Terry Wise's Military Flags of the World 1618-1900 to inspire me if i make my own flags.

#192 of Plate 32 is French Corps in Service of tippoo Shaib 1792.
There are some native standards ie.: Mysore and 2 East Inian Standards which are more like pennants.

I'll take a look at Foundry, I had looked at Redoubt Wellington in India but no photos.
Just as an aside I ordered some figures from London War Room to provide native cavalry 9 they supply painted photos of the figures).

Thanks at Foundry IND229 tribesmen attacking seems to have a standard bearer I could possibly use.
