I need some ruleset recomendations and figure maker reccommendations. I want to play scirmish in 25/28mm as Modern US Infantry [rangers prefably] agianst some terrorists. I would like to have a comapany that is in the US for the figures. Also, what would I need to basically start out in this period? |

Well, I'd heartily suggest Ambush Alley, but I'm probably a little biased. ;) Ambush Alley focuses on modern urban combat and counter-insurgency. It doesn't require a lot of figures as most scenarios are focused on the actions of two or three fireteams vs. a dozen or so opponents. If you like Rangers, you might be interested in our Day of the Rangers supplement (recently given a warm review on Meeples & Miniatures, btw), which focuses on the "Black Hawk Down" incident in Mogadishu, '93. You can find out more about Ambush Alley at ambushalleygames.com Cheers! Shawn. |

Tag, Black Scorpion and Devil Dog designs rock for 28mm figs! Mongrel is awesome as well I'm currently doing a Takur Gar scenario (assembling the 1/48 chinook as we speak :) |

Thank you for the info. Just need to know what I would need to generally play a scneario of Ambush Alley. |

At my blog yesterday, I posted several photos of just the type of game you are looking for set in modern Iraq. Might give some inspiration. They used home grown rules. ordinarygaming.blogspot.com |

Black Scorpion figures are nice, but I never much cared for Devil Dog Design, sorry. Besides, I don't think they make moderns anymore. Another good line I would recommend is TAG (The Assault Group). |

Guh. This is what I get for reading a post after taking cough medicine. I would have sworn there was a rules question in there. Sorry for the spam, fellas! |

I would have sworn there was a rules question in there There was: "I need some ruleset recomendations" |

I'd second the Ambush Alley rule reccomendation – 'Breaking News' is good as well. Ambush Alley and the Rangers book will keep you happy for a long time though :-) There is a review on Wargames Journal wargamesjournal.com |

I'll third the rec for Ambush Alley! As for minis, I'd say TAG and DDD. |

C P Belt – nice link, thanks for sharing. That is a beautiful board, minis, models. The Falafel (sp) House cracked me up; we have a chain called "Wafel House" (sp) in S. Tx, USA that looks the same. Original Post: no rule recommendations, but I really like Black Scorpion and DDD (hard to find though)for Western forces. I have TAG WWII PacWar minis and I also like them, no modern so I cannot compare. I am hoping to send an order in to Mongrol to get some of their Lebanese conflict figures so hopefully can comment on them. |

So who sells the terrorists? Black Scorpion only seems to sell Marines and DDD sounds good to me. |

If you are not already locked into 25/28mm
I was looking at doing moderns on a wide scale somewhat recently and decided on 20mm (1/72). They are cheaper by far. Many companies make boxes of plastics (Michtoy carries Caesar). You can get nicely painted diecast 1/72 armor and air support for as low as $8 USD (Target has tanks and APCS from Forces of Valor). The FOV 1/72 Blackhawk is a work of art: link And runs less than $20 USD at Target
but can be a bit hard to locate. For civilian vehicles you can use Matchbox and Hotwheels. Most of them don't fit right in at 1/64 anyhow if that's a big deal. For metals there are: Platoon 20 and Liberation syrhobbswargames.com FAA figuresarmourartilleryusa.com Corgi makes a wide range of diecast compatible with this scale. If you are in the states check your local Tuesday Morning as they seem to have warehouses full of the stuff and sell it for about %50 off or more. For rules consider AA like others have said. If you want to scale up to a full blown conflict try Cold War Commander. The War Store carries it here in the US. You can also get it from Ebay from time to time
I think the seller is in Poland. And if you are worried about not finding opponents with 20mm
its so cheap just buy several factions. You will make some converts :) |

Black Scorpion sell 'insurgents' too. |

thanks for the info. I'm set for 25/28mm right now cause I like the detail and things like that. |

Company Commander will work for what you want to do. I also use 1/72 modern figs. Caeser's Urban Terrorists set would fit the bill. link Thanks, John |
